한국어의 모음은 "ㅇ" 소리를 가지고 있어요. (Korean vowels has "ㅇ" constant). To make it clarify, the consonants "ㅇ" used when the word was begin in vowels. In the next lesson, I'll explain on how it works.BASIC VOWELS Vertical Vowels: 1. 아 orㅏ- a -ㅏ has the sound "a" in the word "car". You can also think of it as the "ah" sound you might say when you've realized something.2. 어 orㅓ- eo -ㅓ is pronounced as "eo" in the word "up". It is similar to "oh"- as if you're thinking of something3. 이 or ㅣ - i - ㅣ is pronounced as "i" in the word "tree" or "week"Horizontal Vowels: 4. 오 or ㅗ - o - ㅗ is pronounced as "o" in the word "old".5. 우 or ㅜ - u - ㅜ is pronounced like "u" in the word "zoo" and "glue"6. 으 or ㅡ - eu - ㅡ is pronounced as "eu" in the word "cook" or "good"Semi-vowels: 7. 에 orㅔ - e - ㅔ has the sound "e" in the word "egg" or "men". You can also think of it as the "eh" sound 8. 애 orㅐ- ae - To pronounce ㅐ correctly, mouth should be more open widen than ㅔ. However, in real life, this difference has not been observed anymore. So you, just need to learn how to "spell" some words.9. 야 orㅑ- ya -ㅑis pronounced as "ya" in the word "yarn" 10. 여 orㅕ- yeo -ㅕ is pronounced as "yeo" in the word "yuh"11. 요 or ㅛ - yo - ㅛ is pronounced as "yo" in the word "yo".12. 유 or ㅠ - yu - ㅠ is pronounced as "yu" like the word "you"13. 예 orㅖ- ye -ㅖ is pronounced as "ye" in the word "yeah"14. 얘 orㅒ- yae -ㅒ is pronounced like "ye" in the word "yeah". Don't be confused. As you get noticed, ㅖ and ㅒ have the same sound. Consider them just different ways of spelling.W-Semivowels: 15. 워 or ㅝ - weo - ㅝ is the combination of ㅜ[u] and ㅓ[eo], so it is pronounced as "wo" like in the word "wash"16. 와 or ㅘ - wa - ㅘ is the combination of ㅗ [o] and ㅏ[a], so it is pronounced as "wa" like in the word "whoa"17. 왜 or ㅙ - wae - ㅙ is the combination of ㅗ[o] and ㅐ[ae], so it is pronounced as "wae" like in the word "wet"18. 외 - oe - 외 is pronounced like "wae" in the word "wet". Keep in mind 외 and 왜 have the same sound19. 웨 or ㅞ - we - ㅞ is the combination of ㅜ[u] and ㅔ[e]. Think of ㅞ as "wae" sound like in the word "wet". In brief, 왜,외, and 웨 have the same sound despite having a different parts 20. 의 or ㅢ - ui - ㅢ is the combination of ㅡ [eu] and ㅣ[i], so it is pronounced as "ui" like in the word "uh-ee"21. 위 or ㅟ - wi - ㅟ is the combination of ㅜ [u] and ㅣ[i], so it is pronounced as "wi" like in the word "weed"이번에는 기본 자음을 볼까요? (This time, shall we learn about basic consonants?)CONSONANTS22. ㅂ - b/p - If ㅂ is initial consonant of a word, it sounds like "p". If not, it is pronounced "b". For example, 바보 (fool) has the sound value "pabo"23. ㅈ - j/ch - If ㅈ is initial consonant of a word, it sounds like "ch". If not, it is pronounced "j". For example, 보자 (a rich person) has the sound value "puja"24. ㄷ- d/t - If ㄷ is initial consonant of a word, it sounds like "t". If not, it is pronounced "d". For example, 도둑 (thief) has the sound value "toduk"25. ㄱ - g/k - Basically, ㄱ has two sounds. If ㄱ is initial consonant of a word, it sounds like "k". If not, it is pronounced "g". For example, 가구 (furniture) has the sound value "kagu".26. ㅅ - s -ㅅ is pronounced as "s" in the word "snake". Keep in mind this Korean "s" sound is not strong as "s" in the word "same".27. ㅁ - m -ㅁ has the sound of "m"28. ㄴ - n - ㄴ has the sound of "n"29. ㅇ - ng -ㅇ is pronounced as "ng" in the word "song" or "hang", only when it is used at the end of a syllable. For instance, 강 (river) has the sound value "kang".- But if "ㅇ" is used at the beginning of a syllable, it has no sound. For example, 아기 (baby) is pronounced as "agi"30. ㄹ - r/l -ㄹ has the sound of "r or l". It could be a little hard to pronounce this Korean "r/l" sound.- Here's a simple tip for you. Position your tongue as if you were saying as "d"- then say "r" or "l" sound.31. ㅎ- h -ㅎ has the sound value "h"Aspirated Consonants: 32. ㅋ - k' - ㅋ is pronounced more strongly than ㄱ, so you can think it as hard "k".33. ㅌ- t' - ㅌ is also pronounced more strongly than ㅈ, so you can think it as hard "t".34. ㅊ - ch - ㅊ is pronounced more strongly than ㅈ, so you can think it as hard "ch". Like "찬열" (Chanyeol) 사랑해요 오빠! 35. ㅍ - p' -ㅍ is also pronounced more strongly than ㅂ, so you can think it as hard "p" - You might be a little confused by the sound changes of ㄱ [g/k], ㄷ [d/t], ㅂ[b/p], and ㅈ[j/ch]. To sum up, in the beginning of a word, they tend to be the "stronger" sounds like [k], [t],[p], and [ch]. But they are softer in the middle and end of a word like [g],[d],[b] and [j]. Usually they called "strong consonants" or "aspirated consonants" Double Consonants: 36. ㅃ - pp -ㅃ is pronounced as "pp" in the word "spa"37. ㅉ - jj - Think of ㅉ as "jj" in the word "pretzel".38. ㄸ - tt - Think of ㄸ as "tt" in the word "stop".39. ㄲ - kk - ㄲ is pronounced as "kk" in the word "skip"40. ㅆ - ss - ㅆ is pronounced as "ss" in the word "sun"
The double consonants are simply two of the same consonant combined together.
