I sat in silence as the police car rolled through town to the station. I stared at my reflection through the window, and wondered, why did this happen to me? Before today, my worst worry was upcoming finals, and other NORMAL problems a high school sophomore has.

There was nothing special about me, I'm so ordinary. I have wavy blonde hair to my shoulders, bright blue eyes, a small nose, and I'm average height.
Nothing completely striking, I've always wished I looked more exotic.

I shook my head, and escaped from my thoughts. "Excuse me, how long will I be at the station?" I asked. The police officer replied, "About 30 minutes. We normally don't take witnesses to the station, but this is an important crime with a ton of factors. We have a lot to talk about."

I groaned and leaned back. I didn't have time for this. The police car pulled into the station, and I climbed out and walked with the deputy into the station.

The station was clean, and had a nice waiting room with some potted plants. There were some pictures on the wall of various smiling officers, and some generic paintings.

To be honest, I've only been in the police station once. It was during 1st grade for a field trip, while policemen gave my class a tour of the cells, and to tell us why you should never get arrested.

It scarred me for life, I remember the tour guide told us that prisoners didn't get pizza, and I almost started crying right then and there. Heck, I was obsessed with pizza then, and am still obsessed with pizza now.

"Miss Mills?" The chief regarded me, and I snapped back to reality. "Yes, hi I'm sorry, It's been a long day."

The police chief smiled sadly and said, "Follow me to my office, and I need to hear the whole story of what happened."

"Okay, I knew that this could be used as evidence, so I recorded some of it." The chiefs face lit up, and nodded vigorously. "Excellent. These criminals have been virtually impossible to track. We know nothing of them, except for what they want us to see."

As the video rolled, the chief looked confused. "Nick Walters? He's been missing for a month now! This certainly explains a lot."

After the video ended, the chief said,
"Well thank you Nora for your time, you can go home now. Mind if you email me the video? I'd love to investigate it further." I nodded, said goodbye, and met my parents outside the station.

"Nora! We were worried sick!" My mom hugged me through tears. "From now on, we're taking you to school. No more risk of this happening again," My dad said sternly.

I climbed into the car, and my family drove home in silence. "Justin was even scared for you, and you know how your brother is," My mom said while holding back more tears. "Mom, stop crying! I'm okay now, promise!" I tried to reassure her.

When I got home, I hugged my brother, did my homework quickly, skipped dinner to avoid awkward conversation with my family, and went to bed.

----------------------------------------------

I woke with a start to thumping footsteps, and low hushed whispers. "You sure this is her house? The girl who got Lennie arrested?" The source of the voice was unrecognizable, and I hid under the covers, starting to panic.

I looked around my room, and grabbed my shoe, as it was probably the safest bet to defend myself. As if it would do anything against criminals, or a fly.

A deeper voice replied to the other and said, "Yes this is her house, I know it! She will pay, and know not to mess with us Green Rioters." I shrieked. I recognize the name, they're always all over the news, for one crime or another. Who says killing me won't be the next one? Or my family? Gosh, I hope they're okay, I hope they're hiding somewhere. I don't want them getting hurt because of me.

Just as the voices were nearly at my room, I heard a crash, and more voices came flooding into my house. "Sir, ma'am, child, where are the intruders?" One of the voices asked. I sighed of relief, it was officers. I heard a yell, and then the crack of bullets, the sound of dragging bodies and mumbling, and then it was over. "Are you okay?" An officer asked running into my room.

"I'm fine, just a little bit shooken up," I replied. I walked downstairs, and my hugged my family. "I'm glad you all are okay, I was so scared." My brother Justin smirked, "Nah, I wasn't! Dude, if I wanted I could've beat him up!" I smiled, but behind his confidence, I could see the fear in his eyes. No 8th grader should go through almost dying.

One of the officers sighed and said, "We're obviously going to need to do something, you guys aren't safe. Hold on, I'm calling the FBI. This is more of a case for them than the local police department."

I was so tired, and needed air from all this. I ran outside, and stared at the stars. Somehow I knew, my life will never be the same. Something is happening, and I don't know if I'll survive. I almost died twice today, who says what'll happen tomorrow? I took deep breaths, and lied down on the grass, and said goodbye to the life I thought I knew.
