"hey, justin!" the blond called, quickly dashing to catch up with the boy ahead of him. "wait up."

it was a tuesday morning - just the beginning of school, so it took justin a few seconds to register that someone was talking to him.

"oh. hey, standall. what's up? i never hear you call me by my first name." the jock grinned.

". . . right. anyway, i need to talk to you after school, meet me at monet's?" alex questions more than states.

"wait, why can't you just tell me now? or at lunch?" he asks, but alex just smiles and starts walking away backwards to once again repeat his statement.

"monet's - afterschool. i'll see you there!" and he turns back, walking to his first class.

"fucking standall, keeping me waiting until afterschool," he thinks, but he's not mad, he just wants to know what alex needs to tell him.

_____
come last period, justin was still itching to know what alex was talking about. god, was it the fact that is was alex, or the fact he was excited to announce he needed to talk. "don't get your goddamn hopes up. it's probably nothing."
_____

he wasn't sure if he should've waited for alex or go straight to monet's, but then remembered he was asked to meet him there. even if the news wasn't as good as he anticipated,  it sure beat going home to his mother and seth.

he arrives at the café, and lightly pushes the door to enter, the small bell above it ringing. he first looks around to see if alex has somehow managed to show up before he did, even though school just ended.

not to his surprise, the other was not there yet, so he went to a visible table above the short set of stairshe orders himself a hot chocolate,  and the same for alex, knowing that's his favourite.

within minutes, right as his drinks arrive, alex arrives as well.

"sorry, man, didn't mean to be late. fucking got into some shit with montgomery," he says, sighing as he sits. "thanks for the hot chocolate, i'll pay you back."

"nah, it's okay," justin replies, smiling as he watches alex take a sip. "you okay? like with montgomery and also, you needing to tell me something."

alex nods, slowly though, and sets his white mug down. "i'm okay, thanks, but yeah. the thing i needed to tell you." he sits there for a few seconds, looking as if wanted to say something but couldn't (and that actually was the situation).

". . .yes?" justin urges on, leaning forward on the round table. "c'mon, man don't make we wait all day for nothing. " he laughs, leaning back on his seat once again. "you can tell me anything, alex. i'm not gonna judge you. besides, you have to tell me now!"

alex sighs yet again. "actually, you might judge me."

"i'm hurt. " he sarcastically says, and smiles when he sees alex laugh under his breath. "tell me." he says, stretching out the 'e'.

alex shakily breathes, and he's been gripping his mug tightly this whole time now that his knuckles are turning white. "okay, i. . ." another shaky breath.  he mumbles the rest, and as you'd assume a mumble would be, justin could barley make out a thing he said.

"i couldn't hear you. "

"i. ." another mumble.

justin isn't annoyed,  but he can't comprehend why alex can't tell him what he wants to. "alex, i'm sorry, but i really can't h-"

"i like you." he almost shouts, just to get out,  but it comes out normal volume so that only the both of them can hear. "look, i haven't came out to anyone yet, but, yeah. i'm gay and i like you. and that's why i. . . yeah."

justin feels his face soften, even though he's fucking freaking out in the inside. "alex standall likes me? me?? how?? holy shit. he likes me." it was just then that justin realized why he was so eager to talk to alex throughout the day. he liked alex back, too.

"wait really? you like me?"

alex's face falls, and he slowly looks up. "yeah. . . i mean. . . yeah. fuck, i screwed up. i'm sorry, justin, i know you pro-"

justin cuts him off, pulling his whitening hand from the mug into his. "i like you, too. like, a lot. i just. . . i never expected someone as amazing as you to. . ." he smiles at alex. ". . . to like me back."

"justin, are you being serious?" alex asks in disbelief,  but his eyes are shining with happiness and his mouth is curled into a bigger smile than he ever thought he could make. "holy shit."

"deadass."

"you would fucking use that word," he laughs.

"can i like, you know, maybe possibly take you to rosie's diner for a more appropriate setting. y'know." justin asks, standing up and pulling alex up with him.

"justin foley, are you asking me out?"

"i mean, sure. you did invite me to monet's after all to proclaim your love for me." justin winks, and he swears that alex goddamn blushed when he looked down.

"yeah, i'd love to actually. but i'm treating since you got me this." he says, referring to the hot chocolate.

"you were going to anyway." he smiles, and grabbing ahold of alex's hand, he leads him out the door as they head for the diner.
