CHAPTER 18 | A Roller Coaster of Emotions
"Emily! Is that you?"
My head spun around to see who was calling out that familiar name. When I did, I saw him. The guy from my vision. The guy with blue-green eyes.
A feeling knotted inside of me – the dark hollowness slowly spreads throughout my soul, eating away every bit of light.
With a stunned expression – bulging eyes and a wide open mouth, he scans me from head to toe. His eyes held desolation and longing until it was quickly replace with impassiveness. Out of nowhere, a lady appeared from behind him. She flips her blonde hair to the side while she stares vehemently at Sean and me.
The sound form the elevator rang through the lobby, snapping me back to reality. Sean pulls me into the elevator and incessantly pushed the close-door button. I stared from across to see the couple sprinting towards us.
"Close! Close!" Sean exclaims, continuing his actions.
"What's going on?" I asked, feeling dazed and confused.
As soon as the two reached the elevator, the doors came to a close. Sean lets out a deep sigh and slumped against the metal wall.
"Sean, who are those people?" I asked him, my voice wavered as soon as it came out of my mouth. The agitation inside me had me started doing breathing exercises. I watched him shift in his position such as he did during our conversation in the car ride.
"They are the ones who attempted to kill you. They caused that car accident that you were involved in. Because of them, your life isn't what you've wished for," he says.
"Why do they want to kill me?" I asked him, my voice decreasing in volume.
"I don't know," he replies, "but trust me and keep your distance from them. They are dangerous."
The elevator doors opened once again. We both stepped out and walked towards Angela's room. The box of donuts in my hands became heavier as we approached our destination. As soon as we entered the room, I was engulfed in a hug. Sean's parents squeezed me until suffocation caused me to let out a cough.
"I am sorry, Angeli," Sean's father says, "It isn't your fault. It's the way of life that's to blame."
"It's alright," I reply with a smile. "Donuts, anyone?"
••••
Two weeks have passed, and Angela never once opened her eyes. Pessimism clogged the atmosphere in the Woods' mansion. Everyone had dark circles that ringed their eyes, from the sleepless nights praying that Angela would soon wake from her long slumber.
One morning, Sean came up to me with a forced smile. "Let's take a trip to the city and have some fun. We've been in a dark hole the past two weeks, so I think we need something to lighten up the mood, don't you think?"
I gave him a nod and a genuine smile and went off to get ready. After getting dressed, I went off to the garage to find Sean in his Porsche. He started the engine and waved me to come over.
"Where are we going today?" I asked Sean as I stepped into the vehicle.
"How about if we head to the amusement park we passed by a few weeks ago on our way the hospital? I saw how your eyes twinkle in delight at the sight of it."
"The amusement park! I would love to!" I squealed in pure delight.
I laughed as my hair whipped in the wind, slapping my face a few times. By the time we arrived at the amusement park, my hair looked like a tumbleweed.
