Chapter Thirty-Nine

"I am sorry miss. I should have told you who I was," Happy said.

"Well I forgive you," I said. Happy's smile deepened.

"Well that's good since you and Happy will be seeing a lot of each other," Tony said. I looked over at him confused.

"What do you mean?" I asked. Tony turned to look at me, his smile fading slightly.

"Well, I wanted to make sure that someone is here to make sure that nothing happens to you while I'm gone," Tony said.

"While you're gone?" I asked, taking a step back from him. Tony's hands went up to my arms and his thumbs rubbed circles into my skin.

"I'm not going anywhere, yet. But as far as Fury is concerned, your case is closed; which means that I can get reassigned to a new case at any time. And I want to know that someone I trust will be here to watch out for you and keep you safe," Tony explained. I understood what he was saying but it didn't ease the knot of anxiety that rooted itself in my chest. I swallowed hard and nodded in response, not really sure what else to do. I looked over at Happy slowly.

"And you're going to be my-"

"Personal security," Happy finished my sentence. I nodded slowly before looking over at Tony.

"I've never had personal security before," I said quietly. Tony smiled at me lightly.

"It's not that intimidating. Really he just kinda goes with you everywhere and makes sure nothing happens to you," Tony said.

"You won't even know that I'm there," Happy said.

"Well, I don't know about that considering that I noticed you following me," I said under my breath. Tony laughed again.

"She's got a point there," Tony said.

"Well, now you'll know I'll be there but I won't be in your way," Happy said.

"You won't get in my way! Huh, I wonder what that would be like," I said, sending my pointed glare over at Tony. Tony suppressed a smile and winked over at me.

"He'll be kinda like an assistant," Tony said with a smile.

"But he's security. How well can he do his job if he's carrying around coffees for me," I said. Happy nodded his head at me and shot a look over at Tony.

"She gets it," Happy said with a small smirk. Tony rolled his eyes.

     "One time!" Tony breathed.

"Well, if you insist on leaving me, I guess I can do with Happy. Maybe he'll actually come up when I cook dinner," I smirked. Tony rolled his eyes and pressed a kiss to my temple. Before anyone else could do anything, the glass door was flung open. All three of us looked over at the sudden blur of movement. A young boy hurtled into the office, stumbling over the threshold and up to Tony. He was gasping for breath when he looked up at us.

"I'm sorry I'm late Mr. Stark, I tried to cut homeroom but Aunt May got called to the school last time and-"

"Take it easy Underoos. Breathe," Tony said. The boy rested his hands on his knees and knelt over to catch his breath. I pressed palm to Tony's chest and looked up at him confused. Tony shifted his gaze down to me and then shifted slightly. "Uh, Lucy. This is-"

"Peter Parker," I finished his sentence. Peter looked up at Tony and me with a look of confusion coloring his face.

"Yeah... how did you know that?" Tony asked. I swallowed hard before looking up at him.
