Been a while huh? Same plot, slightly updated writing style :) Taken a college level creative writing class since I last wrote any fanfictions so I figured this one may require some refurbishments and better details, better character development, less rushed storytelling (which may result in longer chapters or things spreading out between multiple chapters) and maybe some more ambiguity about certain characters :D I will leave each chapter up as I update them, but each one will be published as I finish them!

She woke with a jolt, hearing louds bangs and crashes downstairs. Her dad yelling again, before sudden jarring silence...

It stays so quiet for a good few moments, before a loud CRACK of wood splintering shakes the house. The rumbling growls are somehow both loud and quiet at the same time. Alice can barely hear them, but she can feel them... Mom always left her shoes downstairs, but maybe she can find her dad if she gets out of bed?

She slips out of bed, onto the floor with all the grace of a young child who thinks they know how to be quiet. The small thump causes the growls to silence, before quick footsteps rush up the stairs. Her door is burst open with another loud BANG and splinters of wood flying into the room.

The man... no... the creature? What is that thing...? It stares at her, its deep black eyes making her whole body freeze in raw terror. Sharp almost cat-like teeth spread while in a hissing snarl. Its hands, claw tipped, are shaking as it approaches slowly. Raising and dropping multiple times, like it's fighting itself.

All she knows is the man- no... no, the monster collapses to its knees in front of her, its arms wrapping tightly around her. Its whole body is shaking, like it's in pain. Rough, wet sounds escape its throat like it's trying to talk or cry.

Then it's gathering her up in its arms, and Alice can't even struggle. Too scared. She doesn't know when the fat tear drops started falling, she just knows her face is wet with salty tears and snot. Her go bag, prepacked by her parents, sits by her doorway. They were under level 2 evacuation protocols, about to leave to try to outrun the Green Flu...

The monster turns slowly, iron tight gripping her against its torso with just one arm, but despite the claws staining its fingertips, the grip is so gentle that none of them are even poking her. It pauses by the doorway, before grabbing the bag and dragging it along quietly down each step towards the bottom floor of the house.

She doesn't know what's staining the kitchen floor, but her mother's wedding ring and necklace are torn off into the middle of the red messy liquid. There is no body. Just wet squishy chunks of something Alice doesn't recognize. The power flickers, the monster's hand forces her gaze to tear away from the mess in the kitchen. She doesn't know where her dad went. The monster pauses by the front door, slinging the first go back over his shoulder, before grabbing the one labelled "Serenity" that was sat by the door, untouched by the blood. Her mother's bag. The other bag is ruined, her father's bag looks like it was ripped apart by something was claws...

The front door is half broken, like something crashed into the wood at full force. The monster carries both bags and the young girl in its arms out the door slowly. The car windows are broken, like someone was desperate to get inside. No sign of her dad anywhere.

The street is dark, its cold and wet outside. It takes merely 2 minutes for Alice to start shivering, her eyes seeing everything she remembers... but it looks tainted. Dirty, vandalized, bloody, she can see so many people standing staring. Their white eyes and pale skin. Neighbors.

Then she sees the body, her neighbors ripping into flesh, pulling tendons out and discarding them, snapping bones with sickening cracks that will haunt her for years, shoving bits and pieces of skin and organs into their mouths and barely chewing before swallowing...

Then the Monster's hand moves, covering her eyes like her dad used to do when he was making her wait or keeping her from seeing something inappropriate for a young child. Its claws still fail to even poke her skin, but the damp, flaky layer of red on its hands smells like metal, and makes her trembling worsen. She can't see fully, but she can see the lights from the streetlights flickering on and off as the power supply to them struggles to maintain itself. She can also see its feet, the muscles and tendons looking slightly wrong. Too strong.

The scraping sound of the bag stops as that bag is also slung over the monster's shoulder with her bag, before that growling hiss starts up again. Then a lunge. The sound of wet choking and skin splitting fills her ears. She can feel something splatter against her shirt and arms. Then the monster quiets and starts walking again, it's hands still covering her eyes.

Her small body can't keep up on the fearful adrenaline, and slowly... each blink gets heavier, until they fail to open back up to the force of her exhaustion.
