It happened today. I couldn't. Believe. She's.... No.. it can't be.
But it happened.
December 3, 2002
Emma Clark appeared on my phone screen. A live video. I scurried and picked my phone up. I couldn't wait to watch Emma perform. It's amazing. The way she sings, live or not, it's incredible.
"Megan," said a voice behind me as I turned around. My sister was walking towards me.
"Yeah?" I asked pulling out my earphones.
My sister nodded at my earplugs. "Can I borrow them, Meg?"
I glared at her, and for a minute, we stared at each other for a while.
no point in arguing with the moron.
"Fine," I spat at her and gave her my earplugs. "But if you don't return it, I swear-"
"Okay okay, chill!" she yelled, hands up.
"Thank you." I said scoffing.
I turned back to the screen, and smiled as Emma Clark performed her single, "Firefly."
When there's no one,
left in silence,
I'm left wondering how I'm gonna live,
in the dark.
But I know,
that no one can take me down,
Because I am a Firefly.
Cause a Firefly,
ain't need help,
they glow as it darkens.
an applause meets the end of the performance. Though I am behind the screen, I clap as though Emma Clark could hear me through the screen.
The concert ended 30 minutes later, as my sister walked back and returned with my earphones. I was in a good mood, so I smiled at her and said "Thanks for returning my earphones, and I'm sorry for yelling at you earlier."
my sister rolled her eyes playfully at me and we laughed.
Sometimes my sister is the nicest person in the world. Other times, things just don't work out as they planned to be. I mean, isn't that the way it works with all siblings. It sure is with most of my friends and their siblings.
You know. I might've missed something. But there was something that was oblivious, because my sister was staring at the screen, with her jaw open.
"Megan. Look."
I slowly turn my head back towards the screen. I don't know why, but it felt like I was turning my head in slow motion. It was awkward. In that moment that my jaw dropped, screams erupted from the broadcasted concert. There's no way.
"Callie, she's just signing auto-" A single shot interrupted me. There was screaming at the concert. I turned back to the screen, horrified. It was so captivated by the screen, that I believed that I was in that stadium. Callie shook my shoulders.
"Meg, you're not really there, it's okay."
"But Callie, do you see those people?"
"Megan please!" Callie said desperately. "No one that I see is hurt or on the ground. I know it."
I just have to trust her.
Callie pulled me away from the screen, to help her with homework. It's just a concert... I thought.
"Help me with homework, sis." Callie said, snapping my attention away from the screen.
"Sure," I replied. But my mind was still on the concert. Emma Clark was all I was thinking about. All I am thinking about. In case you're wondering, I'm wondering if she's okay. I hope no one's hurt, and I hope that Emma is okay.
Three hours later....
I turned on the news an hour ago. The news that we watch is sattelite operated, so naturally, the news is a little slower/
come on, come on. It's gotta be on the news. Such big thing can't be ignored by the news caster, can it be? it would be breaking news to stations all over the world... It should be reporting right now.
It wasn't reporting the incident, and telling whether people were okay or not. I rolled my eyes at the screen and started playing random games on my phone.
A few minutes later, however, I heard Emma Clark's name again.
"Emma Clark, the singer that inspired many young fan's lives, has been sent to the hospital. The hospital has not responded with our requests-" The phone rings in the background.
"It's the hospital!" someone yells in the background "And it's a status about singer Emma Clark and her condition, and I think some of her fans watching may want to know this!"
The reporter stared at the camera " We will see to this update, with you witnessing it live on television right now. Debbie?"
"Thanks Mark, This is the hospital reporting, and they have, declared Emma Clark..."
