Ever since I was 9, I never feel the kind of heart-warming love, sweetness, the joy of living in a family, having neither brothers nor sisters. It's a little bit cliché but I have been living in this orphanage ever since they were gone. I was isolated, being bullied by everyone around me. I've been forced to do many kinds of chores here, though everyone has their own chores to be done, but they kept pushing me to do it all by myself.
When I was young, I thought everything is magical. How the rainbow were formed, how the moon follows me everywhere I go, how the stars are so bright at the night. I always thought that everyone I loved with all my hearts will always be with me. The grandma and grandpa that I cared my cousins and aunts, and my parents.
I also thought that I will lead a happier life than anyone in this world since I have everyone and everything that I loved.
Yet, it seems like it won't be that way.
They-my loved ones, leave me in this world, all alone.
My grandparents left the world when I was 7. My grandma left first at the age of 67 due to a heart disease in February 2006. Few months later, my grandpa followed after her. My dad told me that my grandpa missed her so much that he can't wait to meet her again in the heaven, so God let him be with my grandma forever in the after world. I told my dad, "I miss my grandma and grandpa too, can't I meet them?", he said, "Sure. Everyone misses them but sweetheart, your time hasn't come yet. One day you'll meet her." I let out a sigh, disappointed on my dad. Then he said that I still can meet her anyway. "Look up to the sky. See the brightest star? That's them, together, watching you."
Funny how when I was a kid, I trusted my dad. I looked up to the sky every night after then, searching for my grandparents' star, and talk to them. Later then at school, my friend told me the same thing. They lost their loved ones and their parents told them the same thing that my dad told me. That was when I realized, my dad lied to me.
Sometimes I hope he's not because if not, I perhaps look like a stupid person to my neighbours for talking to the star every night.
In April 2008, it was my mom's birthday on the 23rd of the month. My dad brought us to the place where they first met which is at the Louie Kainess Café near the Tromnuss Lake. We celebrated her birthday, happily, cheerfully for one last time, without realizing their time's coming so soon. On our way to home, my mom said she saw a dark-purple shadow, crossing our car, and became enlarged, looking like its swallowing our car. She screamed loudly, asking me to cover my ears, and ask me to put off my seat belt. My dad drove the car in panic, uncontrolled. He kept shouting "Go away!" at something that I can't see with my bare eyes. My mom looked at me and cried, "Do not look at anything! Listen to me. No matter where you go, no matter what you do and even there's no one by your side, always remember that me and your dad will always be in your heart. If something keeps bothering you, ignore it! If something whispers at you, just don't do anything that it says." I cried asking where they are going. I didn't understand what she talked about but I guess it's important.
She hugged me, saying goodbye. "Remember, find Kyla and Leone. They will help you and one day you will understand. For now I don't think it will disturb you. Please, find them before you turn 18. Do not forget this! And do not trust someone called J....". Before she could ended her words, the car suddenly smacked into another car. Our car rolled in the air, and we shouted, scarily. When the car hit the road, causing it smashed, my mom, half-conscious pulled me out of the car. As I get out of the car, I can see my dad, my loving dad, has already died. His face was full of shredded bloody glasses. As I look at him, I cried, screaming for my dad. "I want my daddy! Dad! Wake up!" My mom brings me to the side road, with her body full of blood and her clothes were worn out. I can see her left arm's already broken. I looked at her, and cried in pain, telling her how she's badly injured. "No, no, sweetie. It's okay I'm fine," she told me to please my heart. There are some people at the place who tried to help us.
I took a few blinks then close my eyes and trying to convince myself that this is all just a bad dream. "No Wendy, this is all not real. Your dad is still alive, your mom's fine, you didn't involve in any accident. You're fine, just fine---..". The sudden shouts around me, voices full of scared wake me up. All those people were running away, looking as if they saw something terrible. I search for my mom. While they were all driving away from that place, I walk around in panic, shouting for my mom's name. "Mommy! Mommy!" I kept shouting and shouting as long as I can. Yet, she's nowhere to be found. And, I was left all alone with my dad's dead body, still stucked in his car.
I cried upon what had happened. I tried to pull off my dad from the car with all my will but nothing can help it. I stayed by his side until I see a sight of a car approaching us.
They stopped their car and came to me. I presume they are a married couple. The woman, around the age of middle 30's, wearing a white long-sleeved shirt with black jeans, a pair of heels. Her hair was dark-brown, tied. The man who's probably around her age with a black hair, a red t-shirt with short pants. They ran to me and quickly observe the situation. The woman came to me and ask me, "What had happened? Why?" She hugged me and wipes the tears on my face. The guy looks at the dead body. "Is this your father?" I tears up once again upon his question and nodded. He let out a sigh, pulled out his cell phone and dialed the emergency call.
The woman look at my face and told me that I'm going to be all right. They asked me where I'm from and any relatives so that she can contacted them. "I don't know," I took a deep breath, " I only know where my house is. But I don't know about my relatives." I look at the ground and cried, mumbling for my mom. "I want my mom. I want my mommy... Where is she?" I looked at the woman's eyes with full of tears. I cried hardly in pain. The pain suddenly surged me. I groaned because of it."It hurts!" I told the woman. She looks into her husband's eye in fear.
"How long will they come?" she asks. "Probably in 30 minutes. This place is quite far than the nearest hospital." He then went to his car and grab a coat then he covered myself with it. "You must be scared about all of this right? It's okay, you're safe now. About your father, I'm so sorry, sweetheart. He can't be saved anymore." I let out a sigh, and told him, "Yeah, I know about that. It is hard for me to face that fact but what can I do? He's with my grandma and grandpa now. He must feels really happy. But..."
Out of a sudden, the world becomes dark. I can't see anything. It's as if my eyes were covered by something, and it can't open. My heart beats faster. I lose my breath. The pain in my chest starts burning.
What is wrong with me?
