Chapter 28

Spike pov

He stared down at her soul.  Amazement seeped through him.  He could have her after all.  She was truly perfect for him.

Being a hellhound; a half wolf-half demom made it difficult for him to have a mate.  The wolf half needed a wolf companion, his own mate. 

'Mate' Hunter purred in agreement.

While the demon needed to find a mate that could handle him.  The demon was a needy creature.  He is overbearing, mean, cruel, viscous-

'Thanks' The demon stated sarcastically.

'Well its true, Rioxar.'  Spike stated.

Without the demon having his mate, Spike wouls have to take lives to feed the souls to his demon. The soul eating starts at the age of 23, and without a mate, he will need the souls to live.  He would become a soulless, but he would be controlled by the demon within.  Driven to take souls and eat them to keep him satisfied.  He would become the monster his family feared him to be.

Noe with a mate, his soul will bind to hers, but the process would have been excruciating.  It would have felt like her soul being eaten alive.  It would have been too painful to subject his mate too. 

With her soul removed, it seems mating her was made easier. 

'Mate' Rioxar purred.

'Yes, Rioxar, she is our mate.'  Spike stated confused.

Rioxar growled.  'Mate is part demon now.  Part mine.' His growl sounded more like a purr again.

Part wolf, part demon, and part human trying to control the craziness within. 

'You mean making us boring,' Rioxar announced. 

Having her soul in a vial, he can hold onto it.  Keep her safe with the monster that he was.  When it came time to mate her, hopefully before he turns 23 in a few months, he can consume her soul.  Through the mate bond, their souls will bind together, passing back and forth keeping them from being soulless. 

She was his perfection.  His light.

'Mate?' Hunter asked.

'We must get her.'  Rioxar agreed.

'Yes, we must.'  Spike agreed.
