"Come on please! I'll bring a case of Monsters!" My best friend Pete pleaded.
"I don't know man. I'm not really religious but I definitely don't fuhk with those things."
"I've got it all figured out. We'll be safe."
I paused a moment to think. This was a bad idea, but for some reason I found myself saying, "Alright fine, but it better be a case of Ultra Black."
"Ok. Four pack of Ultr-"
"Oh fuhk no! If you're making me do this, it's going to be at least two four packs. And if you can convince Ray, then it better be three; one for each of us... and I might steal one of yours or Ray's, or both."
Pete sighed in annoyance. "Fine, fine! Three four packs of your stupid shit. I'll be over at five for dinner." He winked as he hopped in his mom's car to go home.
I rolled my eyes and started my trek home. It wasn't necessarily a long walk. About two miles, maybe a little more, but walking it alone is boring. The last three years, Ray has walked with me. But this year he only has four periods while I have five. Lucky him, he doesn't have to stay for lunch; he does just to spend time with Pete and I, but at least he has the choice to go home while Pete and I drown. Also, the walk home wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to go by the church. Every time I walk by, I can just feel the stares of the people that work or volunteer there. Just because I wear black doesn't mean I worship the devil!
I used to go to church with my parents as a child, but after my dad cheated on my mom and left her back when I was in 6th grade, well, I don't believe there is a god. If there was, wouldn't he have stopped my dad from being an asshole? Once in a while he'll call or give me presents to make up for his absence, but I hate him, nothing can change that.
When I got home, I put my backpack down and brought my portable speaker to the kitchen. It was a little past three and Pete was coming over in a few hours, but he's Pete, which meant that if dinner was at five, he would be here at four.
My mom left last night for a business thing. She's the foreign relations liaison for her company and they're trying to partner with another company in France, so her boss took her with him since she's done most of the talking up to this point anyway. So until next Monday evening, I'm home alone; although, I bet the boys will be here most of the time anyway.
I plugged my phone into the speaker and put on some toons. Then I got to cooking. I told Pete I would make him my infamous veggie lasagna. I've been telling him for a few years that I needed to make it for him; I've just never gotten around to it.
Just as I was finishing up dinner when I heard a double knock on the door right before it opened. "Honey! I'm home!" Pete's voice rang through the house.
I chuckled to myself as I set the table for three, knowing that somehow, just somehow he talked Ray into this ridiculous idea.
"MMM... smells amazing." Pete complemented.
I turned around to see none other than Pete and Ray standing in the doorway to the kitchen. "Yeah, come take a seat and dig in!"
"Are we really going to do this?" Ray said with concern filling his voice.
"Fuhk yeah! We've got to!" Pete yelled with too much enthusiasm.
