I grasped tightly onto my handmade silver sword and continued my way down a tight narrow path. The trees in the forest caved in on me, but none the less the sun shone through the leaves. It was a beautiful morning, but I couldn't let that concern me.
I had people to protect.
I was a Knight of the Flamecrest Kingdom. While I should have been out slaying dragons and saving princesses, I was stuck protecting the roads from bandits and thieves. My faithful horse Cisco walked besides me, not too much action today.
People back in the Kingdom call me Felix, the dragon slayer.
It may be because I've killed many dragons and saved many of the small towns around the Kingdom. It was my job, but like I said before, I'm stuck on guard duty.
Cisco and I trotted up the path, it was spring and the flowers were blooming on the forest floor, it was magnificent. We walked on for another three miles until something caught my eye.
A beautiful girl lay sleeping in a flower bed.
What was she doing out here all alone?
There are many bandits who would easily kidnap this gorgeous creature and do god awful things to her. I gritted my teeth and walked towards the sleeping beauty.
"Excuse me, miss?" I continued my way over towards her but she didn't move. Was she dead? Oh god- was I too late to save her?
As I reached her small fragile body I shook her, she jolted out of whatever kind of sleep she was in and backed away from me.
I could tell she was panicked and afraid.
"I'm not going to hurt you, I promise! I'm a Knight I protect people."
She looked me up and down but said nothing.
"Hey are you hungry? Me and Cisco could share some of our supplies." I looked up at the horse and he looked back at me.
"Um... okay." she said so faintly I could barely hear her.
I reached down my hand for her, she took it willingly and I pulled her up.
"What are you doing out here ma' lady? It's not safe to be out here all alone?" I questioned her.
"I'm searching." She looked up at me.
She had these deep blue eyes that swept me away like the ocean and auburn hair that flowed like the rivers.
"For what?" I asked curiously as I pulled off my pack from Cisco's back.
"You wouldn't believe me." She said coldly, admiring my jet-black stallion.
Damn this girl was something else.
"Well you never know, I've probably heard stranger things." I smiled at her, "Plus I might be able to help you find whatever your looking for."
"I doubt it, what I'm looking for is no object. It is not in a place and it is not something you give away easily." She spoke in riddles and it was starting to confuse me.
"What's your name?" I asked trying to change the subject.
"My name is Nix." She looked so sad, like she had been through something horrible already. Something I couldn't have saved her from.
