I woke up suddenly to the sound of my alarm where I flipped it off my desk and it fell to the ground. I got up and got dressed in my white button up shirt and tie. I quickly rushed to the kitchen, took a granola bar and put on my trench coat as I rushed out.
Today was the day, after fighting lower class crime I finally would be promoted to a higher class. Although I didn't have any powers it didn't matter as long as I tried my best and worked hard.
I reached my business building and went to the main office where the world renowned, "boss," was. I quickly sat down to speak with him.
"Hi, sir, I'm here this morning because you called me?" I asked even though I knew.
"I have seen you have made much progress, despite having no powers," he replied.
I let out a fake chuckle as I continued to listen on.
"Ah, yes, a promotion it was right?" He asked.
"I believe so."
"Well I have to say you're not in a possible position to move above the ranks." He exclaimed in an apologetic way.
I questioned him why and he simply replied, "Without powers you could potentially die due to more of a challenge in enemies and that worries me."
"Who gives a crap weather someone has a power or not?" I replied.
"Look, they won't let you because your personal safety." He responded
"Being a hero is about risking your life!" I yelled as I walked out the room.
I had been walking home when I saw a whole section of town had just disappeared it seemed with nothing but a giant hole.
"What happened?" I thought as I looked around.
Then as I looked I saw a man down the street with his hands in his pockets.
I squinted a bit to focus on him till he got close.
His clothes seemed damaged and he had looked worn out, but I recognized him.
He worked at the agency as one of the hierarchy heroes named Marco
He fell, but I caught him and it seemed as if half his body was burned up and badly damaged, even part of his leg had been gone.
He looked up at me and said, "Get out of here, that man is too powerful, he'll rip you to shreds. Heh, even I'm now half the man I used to be cause of him." He fell unconscious and stopped moving.
I looked up to a man in what seemed like a long coat and a t shirt along with black pants and dress shoes.
I quickly put Marco behind me as I stood up.
"Aww, he's still alive, damn," he said as he pulled out a cigar and lit it.
I got in a battle ready formation, and asked, "Why did you do this?"
He replied, "Because this world bores the hell out of me and I want to see what it has to offer."
He then said, "Outta my way, it'll only take a second," with a blank face.
He put his hand on my shoulder to move me out of the way, but I stood my ground.
"No way in hell am I letting you hurt him," I exclaimed
His face turned from blank to what seemed to be annoyed. He stiffened his grip and without much effort he threw me into a concrete wall.
It hurt like hell and I heard a crack as all the air had been pushed out of my lungs.
I heard a sizzling sound as I looked at my arm. It was glowing a blue color and my coat seemed to be disappearing due to it. I quickly responded to which I took off my jacket and threw it away from me as it was swallowed away by some sort of black hole in itself.
I was dizzy and looked up at the sight of Marco's burnt half disappearing out of existence showing half of his body was gone.
"There ya go, all fixed," the strange man said as he put Marco's body leaning on the side of a building.
He let out a sigh, looking at me.
"Sorry, excuse my inconveniences brother, but y'know how business should work."
I was confused as I was dizzy, "W-what?" I asked.
He looked at me with an unsure face, "Well there's no one to know if there is no one see."
I slowly stood up, "Come at me, I won't give up even if I know I'm gonna lose. You're just another cliche boss in a story," I said.
I put up my fists ready and threw a punch at him.
He disappeared and I tumbled down to the ground at extraordinary pain.
I roared in pain and started breathing hard.
I rolled over and looked at my self. My eyes shook at what I saw, one of my legs and the arm that I threw a punch with were gone and blood was seeping from where they had disappeared.
I looked up at the man as he said, " I expected more from you heroes, but I guess you guys really are all talk."
I was too dizzy to do anything about it , as he grabbed my shirt and lifted me up, he said, "You're an interesting man, I wish we could've hung out more, but I'm afraid this is the end."
With the arm I had left I was hitting his arm in hope he'd let go, but all my strength and energy was depleted.
"Goodbye," he said as his hand had a dark aura around it and I felt the pain as the rest of me was disappearing into nothing but smoke in the air until the pain filled up to my eyes and all I saw was darkness.
