First Step

That first step out the front door is always the hardest. It's basically like walking to your death. Taking the long walk to the bus stop and waiting in the cold for the bus to bring you to what is practically hell. Sauntering into school, trying your hardest to look as small as possible. Trying not to draw attention to yourself. It's not as easy as it seems though, to seem small, because somehow everyone stares. It's like I killed a man, they stare as if I am some mistake to the human race. I've never understood why though, it's always been this way. I'm not necessarily "bullied", more "stared upon".

Sometimes people's eyes stabbing at you hurt more than a literal stabbing. But, to distract myself from all the glaring, I drown myself in school work. I've never been the girl who had friends, I'm more of what some would call a loner. I prefer the company of myself, and according to Webmd, that is perfectly okay.

As I walk into first period I keep my head down, trying to avoid all eye contact with my history teacher. She thinks for some odd reason that she can "help me out" or "extract me from myself", as she says. I slide into my seat, as I slowly turn my head up I glance around the room. I'm surprised at what I see, because I'm always early to class and nobody usually comes in to the class until about 5 seconds before the bell rings, there is another boy in the room.

I automatically get nervous, because it's not every day I'm practically alone with a boy (well besides my teacher) in a room. Being a sophomore in highschool, I shouldn't be so nervous around guys, but considering i don't like to associate myself with anyone, of any gender, people in general make me nervous.

He's exceedingly tall for a sophomore, and his clothing looks like he belongs in either a punk band, or he jumped right out of tumblr. The boy, who I have never seen before in my life, is wearing a tattered muscle tank with the Nirvana logo on it, with black skinny jeans, to make his skinny legs look even longer, black vans on his feet, and blonde hair that seems to stand 5 feet tall. He's actually not that bad looking. As I stare at him, as he reads some book, my other classmates slowly began filing into class.

I probably stared at the new guy for 5 minutes, ironic. My teacher begins motioning towards the mystery man to come to her at her desk. He gets up, and i notice how lanky he is, others began noticing and everyone around me is whispering. I see the teacher whisper something to him, and they both look at me simultaneously, the boy with a slight smile on his face.

What. The. Fuck. The class is gaining interest in the new boy, but i sure haven't. He is walking towards my desk, and i really shouldn't be as nervous as I am. The chatter around me seems to be growing louder and louder, as everyone is now burning me with their eyes as the boy with the 5 feet tall hair is waltzing towards my desk. 4 feet way. 3,2,1. He looks me in the eyes, and with a deep, australian accent he says, "Hi, I'm Luke, you're supposed to show me around?" The class goes silent, and I look at my teacher and she gives me a thumbs up and grins. Well, fuck.
