A new beginning

Last leg of the journey

As the train was slowly coming to a stop, we started to get anxious. Luke looked at me" do you think she will like us?"I smiled" well I guess we are about to find out." He turned to look out the window, he still looked pale but looked better.

We were still not quite over the fever yet, we were still pale and hadn't got all of our strength back. We were as well as expected after loosing everyone we knew and everything. I had put up a fuss when it was time to board the train, I didn't want to leave. Luke and I were not happy about leaving our home. We sold the farm to a family that was moving into the area, it was hard to leave all of momma's things behind. But we could only take what could fit into our trunks, so we packed most of what we could take.

Everyone that had survived and was well enough was there to see us off. We were sad but excited at the same time, we were heading into the unknown. Luke was a young man and loved the adventure of it. I on the other hand, didn't want the adventure. But since I had no choice, here I am waiting for this train to stop.

" How will we know what she looks like?" Luke said as he stared out the window.

I shook my head" I guess we just look for an older version of momma." Luke looked away at my mention of momma, talking about her was a touchy subject. I glanced out the window as the platform started to come into sight,

When the train came to a complete stop, we just sat there. We were here in Richmond, and scared out of our wits. I finally stood up and grabbed Luke's hand and got in line to get off. He didn't fight me, as I thought he was. As we got closer to the exit, I felt butterflies flying around in my belly. I was nervous, what if she didn't like us? What then?

Luke jumped down off the last step to our new life, and waited for me. I walked down to the last step and stopped" I don't think I can do this."

Luke smiled" yes you can, we still have each other sissy."

I smiled" okay , promise me you won't leave me?"

Luke smiled" I promise I will not leave you."

I jumped off the last step of course I got some stares at my inapporiate behavior. Luke laughed" see I told you I wouldn't leave you."

I smiled" yes thank you dear brother, well let us go to the lobby."

Luke grabbed my hand " let us go search for our dear grandmother."

We walked hand in hand into the train station, we walked around in the lobby til we found an empty bench. We sat down and waited patiently for some sign of someone that would be here for us. We waited 15 minutes before we heard someone call our names" Elizabeth and Luke Walters!"

We looked up and around to see who called our names, and stopped on the conductor. We stood up and grabbed our things and walked towards him. There stood beside him the most handsome man I ever laid my eyes on.

He was tall looked to be about 6'3, he towered over the short conductor. He wore overall's and a nice shirt, you could see how muscular he was from his bulging biceps . His hair was a dirty blonde cut in a short length, he ran his fingers through it as he looked around. Then his blue eyes stopped on me, I looked down as we walked over to them.

The conductor smiled" Elizabeth and Luke Walters?"

I looked up and smiled" yes sir, we are."

Luke looked at the tall man standing beside him" wow you are really tall."

I swatted him" Luke, that wasn't very nice remember your manners."

Luke looked at him" sorry mister, I didn't mean to be rude."
