It was a rainy day and Johnny Ghost felt a bit complicated. He had always said he didn't do relationships outside of dead things, but... he had recently found an exception to this rule. Well, you couldn't really say it was a recent discovery, or really a recent development. What was happening was Johnny finally admitted to himself that he, Johnny Ghost, Paranormal Investigator Extraordinaire, was gay.
Johnny had been denying this obvious fact for years now. It really had started when he was a kid. He remembered never taking a real interest in the girls that the other guys went gaga over at any age really. He only pretended to fit in. In reality, he had grown fond of a cute older boy from England; Johnny Toast.
At the time he first developed any feelings for Johnny Toast, young Johnny didn't know about sexuality or baby making or anything (ah, the innocence of youth, he would kill to have it once more). All he knew was boys are supposed to like girls and girls had to like boys, so he was ignorant to his feelings. He did, however, know he felt different around Johnny than he did around any of the other kids.
As Johnny aged, he learned more about sexualities and relationships, but he still didn't really know he was gay. He had passed off his lack of interest in girls "cooties" and his unnatural attraction to Johnny Toast as them being the bestest of buddies. He thought nothing of it until high school.
High school is where Johnny started to feel really different. He tried his best to date girls, but he found it difficult. His only drawing factor to them was they were female and he was supposed to like girls. Meanwhile, his relationship with Johnny Toast only became stronger. Their silly little childhood game of being ghost hunters had evolved into a career interest for both and Johnny Toast had only grown more and more handsome. However, Johnny Ghost's true feelings were only suppressed more when he saw Johnny Toast with all sorts of ladies; they loved him.
After high school, Johnny had completely given up on the idea of dating. He figured he was just ment to me alone. Lucky, Johnny Toast offered to let him in on his business so he wouldn't be poor and alone, and Johnny Ghost had only been grateful for that. It was at this point Johnny had started to truly admit his feelings.
For about a month or two now, Johnny had been looking at his partner even more differently. In the time he had worked with him, he learned he was a master tea brewer, good in the kitchen, and just an all around awesome person to be around. Johnny Ghost found every single little aspect of Johnny Toast to be attractive now, from his British accent to the way he walked. He was perfect, and there was no denying the butterfly feeling Johnny got when he was around Johnny Toast.
Ghost sat staring out the window on that rainy day thinking about all of that. It was nice that he had finally acknowledged it - it made years worth of self loathing's pressure go away because he knew that there wasn't something wrong with him. The only question he had now was what on Earth would he do with his emotions?
Johnny Toast had always been a lady's man. He never denied it. He would often stay up late talking on the phone with a girlfriend he had, or stay out late with her. He was very straight - no denying that either. Knowing this made Johnny feel worse. He knew that Toast not only would not love him back, but would likely think he was gross and end up abandoning Johnny Ghost.
Johnny Ghost was so deep in thought he didn't realize Johnny Toast had walked into the room. He had been searching for his partner for a while now. Johnny Toast wanted to watch a movie or something with Ghost to celebrate their friendship. Ghost was the only person Toast could really call a friend and he wanted to thank Ghost for his compassion. "Sir?", Toast called out, "Are you ok?"
"Huh?" Ghost was startled. He didn't expect Toast to even be home at the moment, last he checked, he was out buying groceries.
"I asked if you were alright, sir." Toast repeated.
Ghost felt a little sweaty and nervous. "Come on, it's just a normal conversation between two best friends..." he motivated himself. "I'm fine, thanks for your concern, Johnny."
"That's good, sir.", Toast sighed, "It always makes me upset when you're down."
"So what was it you wanted?" Ghost asked.
Johnny Toast had almost forgotten what he was doing. "Oh, I was just coming to see if you'd like to watch a movie with me, sir, to celebrate our friendship."
"To celebrate our friendship..." The words rang though Ghost's mind. Yet more proof he'd never be anything more than Johnny's friend. "Yeah," Ghost eventually answered, "sounds good."
"Oh good! I'll get it set up!" Toast was excited that Ghost said yes. He ran into the living room to set up a movie; he had found the perfect romance while shopping for food and was thrilled to share it with his partner.
"I guess it'd be a good idea to change a bit..." Ghost mumbled to himself. He was wearing his worst sweatshirt, one with holes and tears and was smothered in dirt. His hair was also an absolute disaster. He slipped on his typical work sweatshirt and combed his hair before he headed into the living room with Toast.
"I found the cutest little romantic movie, sir, I think you'll like it!" Toast told Ghost as he set the movie up.
Ghost sighed quietly. Just what he needed in his time of sexual confusion - a romance! Ooh, better yet, one with his crush! "I'll get though it..." he thought to himself.
"Hey! I got it going, sir!" Toast was so proud of himself, his smile gleamed. He looked so perfectly adorable and to an extent - innocent.
"Can I see the case for that movie, Johnny?" Ghost asked. Toast nodded and handed the case over. Ghost read the title: "Just Us". He scoffed as he turned it over to the back, it sounded cheesey already. As he read the back, he learned it was a gay movie. "Johnny? You do know this is a gay movie, right?"
"Yeah...", Toast seemed disappointed, "I thought you wouldn't mind, sir... I just thought it was cute and... I dunno. Leave if you want to..."
Ghost suddenly felt bad. "No, I was just making sure you knew."
Toast smiled. "I knew you'd want to watch it, sir!"
Soon enough, they got the movie started. Toast sat down right next to Ghost on the couch before he remembered that he needed to make tea, so Ghost was left alone to watch the movie. When Toast returned with the tea, the movie was about 20 minutes in and Ghost was bored. Toast took his seat next to Ghost and drunk his tea without saying a word until about the half way point.
"Sir?", Toast said, "What do you think of gay people? Be honest."
Ghost took his time thinking of how to answer this question. He wasn't sure why Toast was asking that, it confused him. When Ghost answered, he had chosen every particular word very carefully. "I do not see what's wrong with gay people." It wasn't much, but it didn't say anything suspicious.
"Well, can I tell you something, sir?" Toast looked over at Ghost. Ghost could seance his anxiety by looking in his eyes, which avoided looking at Ghost's.
"Yeah." Ghost replied as nonchalantly as he could.
"I - I think I love you, sir.", Toast was nervous, how was he supposed to know how Ghost would react? It was nerve racking, especially since the decision to tell Ghost had been made with in the last few minutes, "I've had a crush on you for a very, very long time and, you're just so perfect sir. I don't know what I'd do without you."
Ghost was relieved and shocked at the same time. It was a miracle - Johnny wouldn't hate him if Ghost loved him, because he loved Ghost back. Ghost struggled with holding back tears and he responded. "Johnny, I love you, too. I have never felt this way for anyone - definitely not girls. I've always loved you."
Toast couldn't hold himself back. He hugged Ghost hard and smiled, also fighting back tears of joy, "I love you, Johnny, sir, and I want to be your boyfriend. I want to take care of you and make sure you're alright and..."
"Shhh...", Ghost hugged Toast back, "I would be honored to be your boyfriend, Johnny."
Toast looked up and smiled again. He had just become the happiest person on the planet. He looked at Ghost's messy brown hair and looked into his eyes and felt a little spark, a desire. He looked at Ghost's lips and imagined kissing them gently. He imagined they were soft.
Toast leaned in for a kiss and their lips met in a tender kiss. They could each feel their heart beat faster and faster as every moment passed. Johnny Ghost's lips were softer than Toast ever imagined. The kiss was wonderful.
After that, Ghost rested his head on Toast and fell asleep. Toast was soon to follow. They stayed like that until they had to wake up the next morning, at the sun's first light.
