it always seemed very peculiar, but unsurprising, that death seemed to always damage long standing friendships.

eleanor harrison didn't bother to stay in touch with many of the people she'd been with on the fateful night that hannah and beth washington disappeared.

however, josh washington was an exception to that rule.

it had been said that damaged people seemed to gravitate towards damaged people. eleanor never really seemed to grasp those words until something blossomed between herself and josh. they helped each other through the trauma. they were almost happy... for a little while. that was, until josh overdosed on his pills in an attempt at suicide. he managed to live through it and was locked up in a mental institution, leaving eleanor all alone.

feeling dejected, guilty, and worthless, she followed closely behind. though she nearly succeeded, eleanor defied the odds she'd stacked against herself and survived, baring twin scars on her wrists as a constant reminder of how she'd nearly taken her own life. 

she discharged from the institution as quickly as she could, then tried to pick up the pieces of her nearly shattered life. she distanced herself from everyone as she tried to recover, refusing help from anyone who offered it. she ceased contact with everyone involved that night and tried to move past it.

as time went on, eleanor began to accept what had happened. although it was still agonizing to think about, she began to move on.

then, months later, eleanor received a message from josh, inviting her, and all of their friends, back to the lodge for a weekend, to honor hannah and beth's memory. 

but little did any of them know, the disappearance of the washington sisters was just the beginning of the tragedy that would strike mount washington.

a/n: ugh i've struggled with this summary for like two hours now. honestly i think stepping on the keyboard a few times would produce a better summary, but oh well. i'm just ready to get this book started. also i'm too lazy to edit this right now so that'll probably be done later.
