The cool summer breeze poked in through the slants of the bathroom door. Mabel sat her butt on the toilet, scrolling through her social media accounts while she tried to excrete what remained of the night's dinner. At the corner of her eye, she saw a small spider making its way towards her. Seizing the opportunity, she stretched out her leg and squished the arachnid.

"Yuck!" she exclaimed.

Just then, she heard something from outside the bathroom. Something was shuffling or scuttling on the floor. An item or two were moved about and something broke. Finally, she saw a silhouette of something through the stained glass of the bathroom door. She could not make out what it was but it made her uneasy. It would terrible enough if it was another person for Mabel lived alone. But no, it was not another person. The shape of it seemed bigger and more deformed than a human's silhouette. Then, it started knocking on the door. At first, it was mere tap. Then, it sounded like several arms were pounding on the door.

Mabel sat frozen on the toilet. She could do nothing but stare at the door for what seemed like an eternity.

"Who is there?!" she yelled with a tremble in her voice. "You better get out of here before I call the cops."

The thing outside disappeared from her view. She peaked through the stained glass--still sitting her bare ass on the toilet--and shivered from what she saw. All the adrenaline she had in her began to pump. Slowly, she backed away.

She shielded her face with her arms as the thing outside slammed its body on the door. The door has been on its hinges for almost five years, and with every year, it held. Tonight, however, the wood around the doorknob began to crack. The thing disappeared again and there was another slam on the door. Mabel wept and screamed as the thing rammed the door repeatedly.

With no other options, Mabel pressed on the door with her legs and her arms. The creature slammed onto the door once more, destroying the doorknob that protected Mabel until that moment. Mabel looked into the gaping maw of darkness outside the bathroom. Her attacker was nowhere in sight. Not waiting any longer, she slammed the door shut and pressed all of her weight on it. She quickly cleaned herself and stood up from the toilet, skirt pulled up. She waited with bated breath as she tried to listen to the thing's movements. Suddenly, Mabel heard a shrill animalistic cry. She could feel the warm blood dripping from her ears. At that moment, she retracted her arms and covered her ears. The noise grew louder quickly and Mabel felt her body fall to the floor, pushed by the bathroom door. Fortunately, Mabel was quick enough to push the door back but so was the creature. It had managed to get partially inside through the ajar door. Mabel kept her eyes on what seemed to be a leg as it tried to hit her. It looked like a black spider's leg with yellow spots. Its sword-like shape managed to scratch Mabel's arm.

Just then, a tendril slithered from the ajar door, wrapping around Mabel's neck, choking her. With her back that's pressed against the door, preventing the creature from getting in, Mabel managed to kick a can of drain cleaner her way. She frantically reached for it, arms outstretched, and tore the cap open as she poured the stuff on the tentacle. The creature cried once more and retreated the leg--her phone impaled on it--and the tentacle.

Mabel sat there against the door, tired and scared for her life. She didn't dare move or take a peek outside. Then, what she saw made her heart stop. Above the toilet was a small window, about the size of a human head. Through it, a huge, bulging red eye was looking deep into hers. She screamed.
