Author's Note: Welcome to "Battle Cry of the Soul"! This is first my published work in quite some time (I usually did fanfiction on fanfiction.net, and then I discovered the Wattpad community and it helped me rekindle my love of writing), so I'm more than likely a little rusty at my writing or my story-telling.  I actually got the idea for this from a dream, and after some research and fine tuning on planning pages, I finally decided to actually put pen to paper an write again.  So love or hate it, please enjoy and tell me how I can improve.  My main goal is to get this story out first and then I will go back and edit really hardcore as needed.

**This story will have possible emotional triggers throughout, please exercise caution while reading**

"Man, this climb is going to kill me well beore anything else is going to...", I chuckled to myself as I continued to climb the path towards the top of Mt. Ebott.  Legends of monsters being trapped under this mountain have been around since well before anyone could remember, well at least anyone I knew.  One legend spoke of anyone who was stupid enough to climb the mountain would be spirited away, never to be seen again.  I glanced down, sweat dripping from my forehead, I was defenitely stupid to be doing this but then again..."stupid" was a label among many that I have had stuck to me throughout my life, at least one really rings true now.  It probably doesn't help that I'm doing this in the dark...thankfully my headlight was working as I finally made it to the top.  My body was aching, my hands were bleeding and I needed a moment before I went the next step.

My thoughts were still in a jumbled rush, flashing through my head as bolts of lightning crashing to the Earth.  I wiped the sweat from my brow and looked forward at the famed "Hole to Hell" as the many idiotic classmates of mine loved to call it.  It was honestly breathtaking to see it in person, or that may have been the fact that I have been climbing, slipping, falling & re-climbing my way up Mt. Ebott in the middle of the night approaching the dawn that really took my breathe away but who cares really?  I took my backpack off and sat it beside one of the trees that were by the infamous "Hole to Hell" and stretched for a moment and saw the sun was beginning to break across the horizon.  I chuckled and I looked up towards the heavens above, thinking maybe God himself would step down and help me solve everything but who was I kidding?  I made my decision long ago, and God doesn't help people like me...at least when this is over, that drunken bastard...the nightmares...the memories...those ignorant, hurtful fucks at school can't hurt me anymore...I might be going to Hell for this but Hell will be a paradise compared to all this shit up here.

I sighed to myself before turning back to the tree where my bag lay.  Fastened to it was one of my prized possessions, a katana that belonged to my father...I tensed up as I sat it to the side for a moment, a small flashback from my childhood playing.  I shook the memories away and began the next step towards my end as i pulled the rope out of my bag.  I held it in my hand for a moment...a moment of doubt crept up my back but it quickly melted away.  Like I thought before, I made this decision long ago, and nothing was going to stop me.  I looked over my bag real quick and saw the letter I wrote with my pocket knife on top of all my clothes.  I looked it over and flicked open my pocket knife and used it to pin my letter into the trunk of the tree. "Now, let's hurry up and get this over with...I don't want to miss the sunrise"   I said as I began tying the note for my noose.

It wasn't the most perfect noose, but proper research can't be done on school computers since limited websites can be accessed and public libaries had no privacy for what you looked at.  Last thing I needed was yet another rumor about me...or another excuse for the pathetic excuse of a man who called himself my uncle to lay his drunken hands on me yet again and have no one help me...ah, fuck it, I'm done thinking about this...

I strapped my katana back to my bag and slung it back onto my shoulders before starting to climb up the vine-covered tree, the sun coming further and further over the horizon, almost in full view. "Time's almost up", I whispered to myself as I fastened the first end of the rope to the middle of the branch and fastened the other end over my neck. A lone tear slid down my cheek as I looked up as the sun finally made its way up, all of its light touching everything around the mountain, even every inch of my skin covered by the rope. "Well, as the sun rises on this day, it sets for me right now", the tears flowed as I looked at the sun and began to jump, ready for the rope to do its job but then...

All of a sudden, the tree branch that my rope was fastened to broke off the tree and I began to plummet into the "Hole to Hell" below me.  Jesus, I can't even kill myself right...are you fucking serious?!  Well, if the fall itself doesn't kill me, maybe the monsters below will take me out.  I closed my eyes and waited for the darkness to envelope me in its cold, deathly embrace...

...but it never came...
