Yan checked his uniform one more time before changing it out for his Chinese robes. She looked into his old mirror in his room the moment she had finished changing. It still fit him well. She was surprised that it hadn't shrunk in centuries. It clearly hadn't. It still fit her perfectly. There where no wrinkles and no fading. The bushy coal black uniform showed off Yan's raven black hair.
The golden stars shone against the blood red arm sash. They where arranged in the shape of a crescent moon surrounding the largest star. If the arm sash fell off that meant she was dead; for good, even after thousands of years of living. She had pinned it tightly to her sleeve of her left arm.
Yan took her swords from their sheaths. They where slightly tainted with someone else's blood. Yan took out a cloth and some water to shine the beautiful crescent swords. She wanted to regain their former glory.
The swords where still extremely sharp. While cleaning the swords, they sliced through the cloth and cut Yan's hand. Blood dripped down her hand slowly and stained the floor. Once they where shinning, Yan swung them around a few times. Testing her swiftness. He walked over to a wooden pole sticking up out of the ground. The pole sliced straight in half,Yan was still as swift and as talented after so many years. That was good, she would need that talent.
Yan tied bandages around her ankles. They where part of her uniform. She slipped her feet into her black shoes and tightened her hair even tighter then usual.
Wang Chun Yan and Kiku Honda stood together in the alpine tundra-like environment. The snow was slow but soon become a blizzard as the fight become more serious.
Kiku grinned evilly in his head, careful not to show it on his outer appearance. He had to remain emotionless so matter what. Kiku was the master of hiding his emotions.
Kiku raced forwards. His sharp katana sliced though the air aimed at his guardian. It was if the katana had eyes, aiming strait for Yan's perfect uniform.
Yan easily blocked the katana with both her swords. Kiku fought like he had a hundred years of training. However, Yan had thousands of years of training and she was an expert of the art of sword fighting. He maundered the swords swiftly and made sure they know who was in charge. She moved like water. She easily cut through the Japanese man's uniforms. Leaving a few minor scratches but nothing would truly harm Kiku. The elder has backed and deflected every thrust or the katana Kiku could throw at her.
Twenty minutes into the fight, Kiku was already weak. It wasn't easy for him to fight in such harsh conditions. Suddenly, Kiku whipped out a small pistol. Yan did not have such technology. Her country was at war with Japan. But not as advanced. Kiku dropped his seemingly useless katana into the snow. He aimed it at the Chinese woman.
He pulled the trigger, sending a bullet strait for Yan's chest. Yan blocked the bullet with one of her swords, but the bullet left a pretty hard dent in the sword. Kiku kept shooting Yan like a hunter. Yan deflected and avoided every bullet. It was like a hunter hunting a graceful crane. The crane could not be shot what so ever.
After five minutes, the gun had run out of bullets. Yan used this time to attack. Kiku reached and took his katana. He picked it up in time to hear clashing of metal.
For a four thousand year old nation, Yan was stronger then she appeared. She looked like a peaceful, fragile Chinese woman but in reality, she had the strength of a thousand dragons.
"I can not be beaten Kiku aru" Yan spoke with harsh cold words. She faced Kiku with both swords drawn. Kiku was obviously loosing; he knew the older nation will always be stronger then him. "I raised you aru. I know all your tricks. Now turn around and get out of China." Yan had a dead serious voice. Kiku somehow broke free from Yan's grasp: he stepped back a bit, uneasy. Kiku rushed forwards attacking the older nation again. Yan easily deflected the attack with her swords.
"Give up." That was all Yan could say. It wasn't his normal voice. It sounded more like...a dragon's spirit? Kiku was sure of it. He could tell from Yan's shadow. It wasn't human. It was a dragon's.
It had been 30 minutes since the battle had started; the snow was definitely taking impact on the two counties. Yan wanted the fight to end now. Yan attacked again, she sliced open Kiku's neck. Kiku managed to block with his katana which was acting as his shaking shield.
Even though Kiku blocked Yao's death blow, it was doing more harm then good. Kiku had to hold it sideways to deflect the blows: it was starting to cut but his flesh. A drop of blood dropped down his hand and slowly landed in the snow.
"I would rather die." Kiku replied after catching his breath. His voice was cold. The brittle katana broke in half as Yan's swords reached Kiku's throat. Crimson red liquid trickled down out of his neck and stained Yan's swords, but that wasn't enough to kill him yet.
Yan give a pitiful chuckle. She had hating fighting all her life, but here here she was fighting her own brother.
"You shouldn't disrespect your elders, Kiku aru" Yan spat these words out shameful and scoldingly at Kiku knowing he had done wrong. In fact, Kiku was standing there shaking in fear.
"Just kill me and get it over with." Kiku said.
He was on his back now: the most venerable position someone could be in. Yan had her swords at Kiku's neck; ready to slice through his neck. Kiku had no shield and the blizzard was getting worse then they imagined. Yan wanted to kill Kiku so badly there and then. She was in the perfect position. Kiku had killed so many of her people. China was falling rapidly; not much could be done to Japan.
Yan withdrew her swords
"Like I could kill you aru..." she held her swords tight in her fists. The anger in her eyes disappeared. She wanted to shout and let all her anger out on Kiku but instead she dropped both swords. He turned to leave , spearing Kiku his life.
Kiku however didn't return the favour. He stood up and picked up half of his katana. Kiku kept at Yan slicing down her back.
Yan fell into the snow, dyeing the beautiful white a crimson red. It was getting harder to breath by the second. It was even harder for Yan, considering how much blood she was loosing at the second. More blood came out of her mouth as a few minutes passed.
Kiku get up and began to walk away from his guardian, when he heard a familiar tune. One he had heard every night...even when Yan was badly injured she managed to hum Kiku's favourite tune that helped him sleep when we was younger.Tears formed in Kiku's glassy eyes. It was only then he released how much of a monster he had become. But it was too late to turn back now: he continued to walk away from Yan.
Yan heard a familiar voice. It was a simple 'KolKolKolKolKol' in the distance. She knew it! It was Ivan! A large shadow bent over her. Yan was right. It was Ivan, but she didn't have enough strength to get up. Ivan bent down as reached out to her. He picked her up and carried her off. That was the last thing Yan remembered before passing out.
