Today was an ordinary day. Me, Emma, is the weird loner kid who eats lunch by myself... everyday in fact. It's partly my fault though I'm kind of shy, by kind of I mean really shy. I can barely speak to anyone. But at home it is way different. I'm all over the place.
Let's get somethings straight really quick. Earth isn't the same. Pollution caused global warming causing the ice caps to melt and therefore resulting in a world flood. But people saw this coming and prepared. Now certain cities float on large boats. The more richer and facier cities built protective shields keeping the water out. Sucks for them though, they don't get to see the night sky and it is always dark down there.
That isn't the only major change. People have developed um powers. The pollution got really bad, and the protective measures for nuclear power plants didn't work and radiation caused this powers.
You're probably wondering how I fit into all this and maybe you already know. Yes, I have a power... it isn't all that glamorous though. Not like everyone else's, they all have cool powers and gifts. The truth is I don't know what my power is but it is clear that I do have one. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to go to this school.
The school is called Storm Mountain School of Magic. In the city of Wolfvein. Which is apart of the nation of Winchester. Lame, right? It's one of the smaller nations of the world but since we are allied with the strongest nation in the world, no one really messes with us.
Well it's about time I start the story for real.
Like I was saying before I got a little sidetracked. Today seemed like it was going to go like any other day. You know, wake up, brush the good old teeth and get ready. Maybe eat breakfast if there was time and if there is anything good in the pantry.
Anyways, I get to school, you know how it is. Everyone is grumpy and no one really wants to be there and only really show up because of friends and probably because it is required. Since I don't have any friends, I only show up because it is required and I have nothing else to do. First period was a drag, science class. Not my favorite class the teacher sucks. So most people mess around in the class and are always holding up the class. There are a few nice people in there who do say hi to me once in a while which is nice. The next class is almost the same but the teacher is better and keeps the trouble makers in line. But programming is tough to get the hang of, I think. I wouldn't know.
Third period is way better. Everyone keeps to themselves or stick to their small groups. The teacher is laid back at times until, that one person sets him off. It's normally the same 3 people. Good thing it is only English class.
Now here is what changes, after third comes lunch. Half way through lunch, I'm just sitting there casually eating and reading a book and this dude, yes a dude, crazy right? Anyways he approaches me and sits right across from me. At this point, I'm freaking out. No one has ever done this and since I'm a shy person I don't have any idea on what to say. And I get the courage to look at him and I recognize him, it's Ricky. I have 4th period and 7th with this dude.
Just about everyone knows him in our grade and he knows everyone. From what I know he seems like a nice dude, he does say hi once in a while. He starts the conversation "Hey Emma, mind if I sit here?" And of course it isn't what I was expecting. So I respond with a shaky "sure", exciting right.
He goes on to ask what book I was reading. I just sit there looking at him awkwardly, again the downfall of being shy. I respond a little snarky with something like a "you read?" Thank goodness he didn't take it the wrong way. But we have a little chat about the book, the one thing I'm good at talking about. I explained the general plot to him and he asked if I owned the book. Of course I own the book, I don't like interactions so I don't go to the library and get books. Turns out he wants to read it. Other than that he just kind of watched me read, weirdo.
What happens after lunch is more weird...
