Have you ever just read an amazing book, or maybe you saw a really cute gay couple. The feeling of happiness that spreads through your chest when you see a dog? I have that feeling a lot, about everything. Positivity is my middle name, and everyone knew that. I get so happy when something stupid happened, like once I got new sheets and I almost cried from joy. I've always been like this, even when I was a child. People know me from my happiness, and I think they always will.
Picture this; summer of 2016. Girls flaunting their hot bodies in bikinis at the beach and guys breaking their necks trying to get a good look at them. People everywhere playing volleyball or some sport like that. Guys surfing the waves miles out from the shore. Then there's me. Sitting under a huge umbrella with glasses and a Steven King book. My faded purple hair flows down the sides of my face in a crimp-like fashion (I never brush my hair). Earphones in my ears playing Fall Out Boy, the highest the volume can go.
I enjoy being at the beach, but i don't enjoy the sun. You can blame my pale skin for that. I burn easier than anyone i've ever met. Its great lemme tell ya.
I was entranced in my book when out of no where I feel my towel tighten under me. I look up to see some chick just staring at me.
I pull out my headphones and politely ask, "May I help you?" They nod and end up having my full attention.
"Um, hi." they say with a small voice.
Now let me tell you something, this chick can't be taller than 5'3. She has the shortest legs I have ever seen.
"Um, hi! You are..?"
"Oh! Sorry, i'm Jesse, Jesse Olsen," she said with a bright smile.
I'm a very observant person, I pick out details that other people wouldn't even notice. I could tell by her hands that she was nervous as hell, like, calm yourself girl.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Clementine Johnson," I say enthusiastically, hoping to calm her nerves a bit.
"You too.." she seemed to trail off, "Anyways, can we talk later?" she said throwing a smile.
"Yes, of course," I say while nodding my head. I asked to see her phone so i could put my number in it.
"Okay, talk to you later!" she said while walking away. I wave back with a small smile.
After sitting in the hot sun for about 30 minutes, I decide it's around time to go home. God forbid I get sunburnt. I only live a 20 minute walk away from the ocean, i'm lucky that way.
The walk home is peaceful, I see multiple people that know me. Of course, i'm kind enough to say hello and wave. You never know how a small, kind gesture could impact someone's life. That is why i'm kind to people, you never know who might need it.
I approach my home worn out and tired. I take a deep breath before pulling out my keys and sliding them into the lock. Pulling the door open i enter an empty house, my dad worked all of the time, I never see him much. After my mom died, he's worked non-stop.
I walk past the many pictures on the wall, doing my best to avoid looking at them. There are so many pictures of my mom before she died, so many. She was absolutely beautiful.
I run up the stairs into my bedroom and fall face forward on the bed, embracing the warmth and comfiness. I exhale deeply and allow my body to relax.
I'm not sure how long had past, maybe 20 minutes, maybe an hour, but i fell asleep. And let me tell you, I slept like a baby. It was great. Until I woke up to the beautiful sound of my phone ringing.
I groan and reach over to grab my phone. Without looking at the caller ID I answer.
"Mngh, hello?" I say, my voice all groggily.
"Hey! Its Jesse! Sorry, did I call you at a bad time?" Her voice is exceptionally loud. Not that it bothers me, I just woke up and it's not exactly what I need right now.
"Oh, no! I just woke up, how are you?" Trying my hardest to be nice and positive.
"Oh I'm good, I was wondering if we had any of the same classes!" She chirped.
"Hit me with them," I mumble.
"Oh! Okay, for first hour I have math, second I have Art, third.." she rambled on and on.
After 3 minutes and 10 classes later, i've came to the conclusion that we have about 4 classes together.
"Oh, my god, Yay!!" jesse squealed into the phone, making me physically cringe. I was not entirely awake.
"Okay, I have to go, talk to you later!" she quickly says and then hung up the phone.
"Ope, Bye," I say to the phone even though the call has ended.
I roll over in my bed, still tired as all hell, and take a deep breath. The thoughts that swim around in my head were suddenly cut in half by the sound of my stomach growling.
I start to throw my body up and place my feet on the cold wooden floor, Instantly making my body shiver.
I walk down the stairs quietly, trying not to wake up my dad who has to leave for work in a few hours. I was doing well until I got distracted and missed a stair. 'Good job, Clem.' I think to myself.
I pick myself up off of the stairs and walk down them, making sure not to miss another step.
Walking into the kitchen I hear my phone go off, I unlock the screen and see a text from Jesse.
"You're gorgeous"
