Finishing police training I hear sucks especially for a woman. But I am going to do it anyway. Which is what I thought before training. After 12 weeks of torture. Including a 1.5 mile run in a short amount of time and an agility test I had to take a second time. But after what seemed to be boot camp I finally made it into the S.P.D (Spokane Police Department) K-9 unit but now I need to be assigned a dog.

When I arrived at the police department I was met with a sterile environment. I don't know what I was expecting but I was put a little bit down by the plain- ness of it all. But it still won't stop me from having a good first day. I go up to the front desk and ask where my desk was. And the grumpy old man there said in a gravely voice "You the new Chick? Maria Grey"

I replied "yes.". More timidly than I wanted to so I cleared my voice and tried again more clearly. "Yes."."You're Late" he grumbled In a so matter of fact like tone which I didn't appreciate to much."I know Bad Traffic" I said honestly. I did I hit all 13 lights."18th cubicle down and take this down and start signing" he said while pulling out a stack of papers that I assume are paperwork. So I lug the papers to my cubicle with a paper label on it saying "Maria.A.Grey, Officer". I rolled my eyes at the nameplate and immediately decided I need to bring in an interior decorator to renovate this whole place. But I will have to make do with what I have. As soon as I get settled in the announcer blares and it said Maria Grey training facility. I grumbled to myself I already took my gosh darn tests now what? I was met with a handsome young man with a cute dog on a leash and he spoke in a tenor voice on the deeper end " Here is your assigned dog he gestured to the dog. He will be with you until further notice""I hope there is no until further notice" I joke.He smiles and said "he is already a certified police dog. And there is a list of foods he is allergic to." and hands me a piece of folded paper. "Does he come home with me because my apartment neighbor is allergic to dogs" I say sadly."Unfortunately yes we have no where here to keep him." he said sounding like he is genuinely sad.

After work I drove to the local pet store and got him a large breed bag of dog food. And also found out he is a Husky-German Shepherd mix. I knew he was part husky before because of his one light blue eye. But now I'm sure. I got home to my 5th story apartment and realized that I needed to make 2 trips because I also bought a rope toy treats and a food and water bowls. So I grumped up the stairs twice and filled the dogs bowls and flopped on my futon mattress but before I fell asleep I felt Lucky lay down at my feet.
