Joy's POV

I groaned in annoyance as my phone kept on beeping and beeping, telling me to wake up because it's time to get ready for the day.

I stretched my limbs, scratched my hair and stared out my window, admiring the gorgeous view of the park just across the street.

After doing all my daily morning routine, I stepped out my house, locked the doors and started my journey to my bakery. As I walked, I saw different things that caught my eye. A family having a picnic on the ground, a couple eating ice cream by the bench, one kid riding her bicycle as she laughs in enjoyment. They all have something in common, they're all happy. Everyone deserves to be happy, that's for sure.

And yet, when I thought I was happy, it disappeared. He disappeared.

I stopped in front of the bakery and noticed Iris already inside, holding a tray of freshly cooked cookies. There are already muffins and cakes inside the stand.

"Eager to start your day, I see." I told her as I hang my coat up.

"Just feeling a bit chirpy since yesterday, which is weird since it's one of the most hectic day of my life." She shuddered for emphasis and went on to placing the baked foods in the stand.

I went inside the kitchen and started baking a Blueberry Cheesecake which is Clark's favorite. I busied myself inside the kitchen until I heard the bell, signaling a customer. I expected a normal thing to happen, for Iris to serve the customer what they want and the said customer will pay for whatever they bought. But nope, instead I get to hear arguments.

"Look, you're not allowed inside this bakery, okay? So why don't you just leave?" I heard Iris saying.

"But why? It's my first time coming here since I didn't get to come to the opening yesterday and now I'm banned? What did I even do?" The customer argued.

Deciding to step in, I placed the finished base of the Blueberry Cheesecake in the oven and wiped my flour covered hands on the towel next to me.

"What's the problem here?" Iris jumped and she spun quickly to face me.

"Joy! Hey, how's the Blackberry Cheesecake doing?"

I looked at her weirdly, "It's blueberry, Iris. And what's with all the ruckus? Did the customer bother you?" I went on my tip toes to look at the customer since Iris is blocking him (I assumed it's a guy because of his voice) with herself but she blocked him again.

"Nothing's wrong! What are you talking about? Just continue working in the kitchen don't worry everything is fine here." She laughed nervously.

I narrowed my eyes at her and she just frowned, but stepped out of the way nonetheless.

"Okay sir what seems to be the problem?" I looked up and froze.

I wasn't ready. Maybe I thought I am but seeing him again after a year still stings. But this was supposed to be my new start, so why not be a new me?

"Sir? Is everything alright here?" I asked him.

He coughed, "I just want to know why I'm not allowed to buy here."

"Sir, you know the reason deep inside of you." I smiled.

"Is it enough reason for me to be banned in this bakery?"

"It's enough reason for me to almost lose my goddamn mind and my freaking sanity!" I slammed my hand down on the counter.

Jerson frowned at my behavior and Iris looked pained, sad.

I rubbed my temples, "Please, Jerson. I have a bakery to run. Can you leave? I'm sorry if it's rude--"

"Don't apologize, Joy." Iris said with a roll of her eyes.

I narrowed my eyes at her again and she made the gesture of zipping her mouth shut.

"Please leave, Jerson." I said.

He opened his mouth but nothing came out, so he just nodded and left.

I walked towards the kitchen and sat down on the chair, controlling my breathing.

"I'm not even gonna ask if you're okay. Just stay there, and let me handle the shop today." Iris smiled at me through the door.

"Thanks Iris, but I'm still gonna help."

"Help or no help, fine by me." She smack her lips and left.

Why, in all people I know, must be him that I get to see here? It can be Anne, Johanna, maybe even Lourence but no, it must be him. Am I really that bad of a person for the world to treat me like this? Why do good people get treated the worst?

I'm pretty sure I'm a good person, or am I?

I stared at the floor for God knows how long until I heard the oven beep. I shake my head to clear some thoughts of him hopefully and grabbed the oven mits.

A few delicious spread of cheese and blueberry later, the cake is finally complete. I lifted it and went outside, laughing as I see Iris struggle with all the customers.

I placed the cake in the stand and placed a hand on her shoulder, "I appreciate your kind gesture, but let me help." She laughed but nodded.

After the lunch hour, only a few people are left inside the shop. I looked at Iris who is busy typing on her phone and at Clark who is drawing calligraphy on a piece of tissue. He arrived at 11:30, saying that he's bored and he doesn't have work today anyway. Plus, we need the extra hands.

"Can we talk?" We all looked up at the person who spoke and it was none other than Jerson.

"What are you doing here? Didn't I tell you to leave?" I stood up.

"Can we talk, Joy?"

"No, obviously you two can't talk! After what you did to him you son of a--"

"Language, Clark!" I scolded him. "Please leave, Jerson." He shook his head.

"Just an hour, Joy. Please."

Iris coughed but obviously she was saying asshole.

"Leave." I told him once again.

"Half an hour, please just 30 minutes of your time. I'll wait until later." He walked towards a table and sat down.

"Talk about demanding guys, huh?" Iris said.

"I thought you banned him?" Clark asked me.

I groaned as an answer, "Why does it have to be him?" I sat down and placed my face on my open palms.

"If it's meant to be, it will be. If after all the pain and heartbreak, it's still him? Then all roads will lead back to him." Clark whispered as he laughs right after.
