A/N: quick note, I didn't actually think I'd post this. Slow updates, you have been warned.

It was cold in the alley. Margret shuddered, wishing she hadn't gotten kicked out of that Starbucks. Homeless life was fucking hell. Homeless life in the winter was worse. Instead of focusing on getting "asked to leave" Starbucks Margret took a drag of her cigarette.

"You shouldn't smoke.  Those'll kill ya."

The girl who spoke had one of those faces that screamed 'I'd like to speak to your manager'. Margaret hated her, just a bit.

"What's it matter Princess?"

"I don't know. For some reason I thought you might have enough common sense to care about maintaining a heart beat. Guess that was a bit dumb to assume."

"Oh fuck straight to hell. You don't know shit."

The girl surprised Margaret. At most she'd expected a pitying or, more likely disapproving look. Not the annoyed rage her response held. She contained the feeling of smug delight that washed over her.

"You aren't special. With your dyed blue hair and your tattered jeans. You aren't tough."

"And you are?"

She didn't say that her clothes were tattered because she'd been wearing them for the last three months. Or that she'd rationed food money to buy herself the hair dye as a birthday gift a week ago. She wasn't trying to be tough. She was just trying to do what she could to survive.

"Don't look at me like you know me."

Margaret smiled. She'd upset the girl. If she were a better person maybe she'd feel bad. But she wasn't. So she let herself savour the fact that for once it was someone else flustered and angry.

"Kindly return the favor. And
while you're at it, kindly fuck off."

The girl took a moment. She stood there, in front of Margaret, glaring. Margaret kind of hated her.
