*Jay's P.O.V*

I made my way towards my silver Toyota Prius and was just about to push the button to unlock my car when a noise caught my attention. I turned towards the noise and saw my partner kicking the driver side door of her matte black Audi A8 in frustration. I walked over to her car and tapped her on the shoulder, making her jump and reach for her gun.

"Woah! No need for that," I chuckled in amusement.

"Jay, you shouldn't sneak up on me like that. I could have shot you!" Erin admonished me, whilst clutching at her chest to calm the rapid beating of her heart.

"Sorry about that," I laughed, "why were you kicking your car?" I asked curiously.

"I can't get the stupid bloody thing to start" she exclaimed, in exasperation.

"Do you want me to have a look and see if I can fix it?" I asked, watching her forehead scrunch up in frustration. She's so adorable when she' s mad.

"Yes please" she chirped, a glimmer of hope appearing in the corner of her striking green eyes.

I opened her car bonnet and had a look at her engine but couldn't find anything wrong with it. "I think the battery may be dead. The precinct mechanic has clocked off for the day and won' t be back on shift until tomorrow morning. Would you like a lift home?" I asked, hoping she would accept my offer for a lift.

"Yeah thanks Jay, a lift would be great" she responded gratefully.

"Well then, this way please madam," I said gesturing in the direction of my car jokingly, making Erin chuckle.

I opened her car door for her and waited for her to get in before closing the door and jogging round to my side of the car and hopping in and starting the engine. I pulled out of the parking lot, groaning internally when I saw the traffic backed up for miles in both directions. I didn't really mind too much though. The longer it takes me to drive to Erin's place, the more time I get to spend with her.

Traffic was crawling and Erin had been silent since we got into the car and it was starting to make me nervous. Filling awkward silences is not something I am very good at. I glanced over at Erin and noticed that she was fiddling with the ribbon on her sleeves; something she only did if there was something bothering her.

"Everything ok?" I asked nervously, momentarily glancing over at her before stealing my eyes away from her slight frame and back to the road.

"Yeah, I'm fine," she smiled sheepishly. I nodded, deciding not to push the matter further and instead focus on the road. Although it wasn't easy to focus with the smell of Erin's perfume filling the car. I'm not sure what it was called but it smelt absolutely incredible.

After crawling along at an average of about 10 miles per hour for an hour and a half, I eventually turned onto Erin's street. As I pulled into her driveway, she undid her seat belt and turned to face me.

"Thank you for the lift. I really appreciate it." She said, sounding exhausted. She staggered out of the car, nearly crashing to the ground before regaining her balance. I leapt out of the car and raced to her side.

"Erin, what's wrong?" I asked frantically, helping her stay upright by holding her arm and placing my other hand on her hip.

"I'm fine." Erin tried to assure me, but I wasn't buying it.

"No, you're not. Erin, you nearly face planted the floor," I asserted, worry seeping through my voice.

"My leg fell asleep and now I have pins and needles that's all" she assured me gently.

"Would you like me to escort you inside or are you ok to head in by yourself?" I asked carefully, maintaining a firm grip on her.

Erin tested whether her legs would hold her up and, when satisfied they would, moved out of my grasp and turned and hugged me. I gladly hugged her back, enjoying the way she fit perfectly in my arms; like two puzzles pieces slotting together to form a beautiful picture. She pulled away and thanked me, nervously biting her lip.

"I take it you'll need a lift to work in the morning. Is 8 o'clock ok? I'll bring breakfast" I suggested.

"Yeah sounds good. I'll see you then" she smiled and walked inside her house, closing the heavy wooden door behind her.

I got back in my car and began the lonely drive home. I only lived five blocks away from Erin so it wasn't long before I had parked my car in my driveway and let go of a shaky breath that I wasn't even aware I was holding. I entered my house and headed up to bed; a tired smile on my face.
