The beast strolled over, his right hand twitching in anticipation, his left gripping onto the knife. Its silver blade seemed to glow in the reflection of the moon. The beast was smiling maniacally his teeth pure white and his eyes filled with blood lust. Marie backed away from the creature and put her hand on her chest. Ba-dum, ba-dum, her heart was beating ever so quietly as to remind her that she was barely alive. A single tear rolled down her tan cheek.

The moonlight became the only source of light and the darkness seemed suffocating. Marie looked around but found no means of escape. She had backed herself right into a corner. The woods being the only thing she could see and the beast knew it. If she decided to run, he could easily catch her. The gentle breeze flowed through her hazel hair and its curls brushed against her neck.

Teary eyed Marie looked up at the beast, her blue eyes filled with sadness and despair. Pleading the beast for any form of mercy.

She thought back and wondered how her life had plummeted into such a state of hell. What had led to her soon to be demise? Memories seemed to race back, from the beginning of her first year at college only a couple months ago.

August 24th... 11 months prior to the attack. Marie's POV

"Oh my god!" I looked down at what once was my favorite white summer dress. Now covered in mom's red hair dye and a bit of hot chocolate.

"You little rodent get back here!" I yelled at my ten-year-old brother as he laughed and ran off. Chasing after him through our two story house. Up and down the stairs multiple times exhausting myself. When I did finally catch up to him he was rolling around laughing as I stomped after him like a zombie bride.

"Y-you look like you just stepped out of a badly written horror movie," my brother roared, laughing at my apparent disfigurement.

I looked down at my little brother he seemed tired and yet happy. It was nice to see him yapping about something other than me moving for the first time in a long while.

"Oh yeah? Well you, you-" I started only to be cut off by my little sand head brother.

"Are the best brother in the world?" He said trying to finish my sentence.

"Far from it actually," I replied.

"Far from it actually " Charlie said in a mocking voice.

"Whatever Charlie! My specialty is law not comebacks," I shot back.

Charlie simply shrugged and then we just stared at each other for a bit. Finally, he broke the ice and started laughing. Soon I joined in. Then we were both laughing and just having a good time.

I noticed that the moment was over too soon and Charlie just stared at me his brown eyes watery.

"Hey Chars what's wrong?" I asked him. The moment was gone too soon. One of our final blissful moments together before I headed to college and only got to see him for the holidays, gone.

His eyes began to water until his whole face looked like it was about to burst. Quickly, I ran towards him and pulled him in for a hug.

"I don't want you to leave," Charlie sobbed into my back. Once again he was ruining my favorite white summer dress but this time I didn't really mind.

"Shhhh, it's okay Chars. It's okay." I comforted him attempting to calm him down, but that only made him cry harder.

"Why can't you just stay at home with me and mom? You could drive to Centura from here it would just take a couple more hours to get there." He questioned me relentlessly trying to convince me in any way to stay.
