As I sat in this boring seat on this boring afternoon in this boring science class my only focus after today was sleeping in eating tons of ice cream and swimming in somebody pool. That was all I cared about. Maybe I'll even go to a few house parties with Tre and the basketball team and have a good time and make some more friends. My first summer in Chanhassen is gonna be a a good one. Just as long as my brother has a baby sitter my days are all mine! Ahhhhh! The smell of chlorine and sunscreen! It just overwhelms me. This is gonna be the best summer ever! I can't wait to stay up late tonight and pig out on snacks that I know daddy wouldn't dare let me eat and watch movies that he would probably have an aneurysm if he knew that I was watching them! As I looked at Mr. Pearson's fat double chinned face the only sound I heard out of his mouth was the same sound you would hear whenever the teacher from Charlie Brown give their lecture. Womp womp! I swear if this bell don't ring I'm gonna blow a fuse. AND ITS HOT! How does this man have on a three piece suit in the middle of eighty seven degree weather and won't turn on the fan at his desk. I bet if you cracked an egg on his face it would cook instantly. I wouldn't eat it though. Not with him pour sweat out of his skin like how little kids in the hood pour kool-aid. A LOT!!! I bet he smells like a barrel of bacon. Except this barrel sat in the sun for three weeks and never got refrigerated. Judging by the pit stains showing through that think pea green jacket I'd say he forgot his deodorant.....again. God what is taking this bell so long?!?!?! This really can't be my life! The summer gods must be teaching me a lesson on patience. I already know that I lack that still but living with my dad I'm starting to pick it up a little! With only five minutes left in the day I forced myself to not watch the clock. It was working until I felt something hard wack me on the side of my face. The sting hurt so bad that I was instantly angry and nearly shouted but contained it until I found the source of my pain. A small square note folded by my foot on the floor. Picking it up without being seen I hid behind my text book and opened it up.

"Ready for summer?" The note said in all caps in blue pen.

That handwriting of his makes my heart scream like I'm on a roller coaster at mall of America! I looked over to my right and there he was. Giving him a girly wave Tre smiled at me with those pearly whites at me and I almost fell out of my seat in love. He looks like a chocolate Greek god. I just wanna run my hand down his waves and chew on his plump bottom lip and maybe-

"Miss Nelson!" I heard Mr. Pearson belt out of that fat throat of his.

The sound of his Garfield voice jolted me out of my fantasy and I gave my wide eyed focus to the front of the room.

"Huh?" I answered loudly making a complete fool of myself in front of the class.

"You're supposed to be giving you oral report on what it means to be a productive citizen of society during the summer."

I sheepishly slumped down in my seat and covered my face with the text book in front of me.

"Uuuuhhhh.....no thank you." I muttered from behind the book with my eyes closed.

I can hear the fat man in the front of the room trying to cross his arms in front of his body. Judging my the sound of the seams screaming for help that means it must have been a struggle.

"Then I guess you want to fail for the year. I'm sure that phone call to you father won't be so pleasing for him. Now....Miss Nelson.....if you don't mind?"

All eyes were on my as I slipped out of my desk and up to the front of the room. I felt like a zoo animal on display. The moment I took a deep breath and was ready to speak the bell FINALLY rang.

"Class dismissed." Me. Pearson announced as the kids all got their things and anxiously bolted out the door.

Me being the smart one I didn't feel the need to bring anything with me on the last day. Not even a pen. I filed in line behind the others when....

"Not so fast young lady."

THIS GUY is really TAP DANCING on my LAST nerve. Rolling my eyes and stopping in my tracks I turn on my heels to see him glaring at me like I was dressed as a glazed donut for Halloween on something.

"Yes! Captain my captain!" I said sarcastically.

He squinted his eyes at me and huffed.

"Don't think you're getting off that easily Miss Nelson. Since you didn't do the assignment due to lack of time I will give you a passing grade."

  "SWEET! Can I go?"

"However! I will still make a phone call home to your father about what you will do over the summer in place of the previous assignment. You'll have to send it to me via email by the first day of school in September. I will forward it to your next science teacher."

  "That doesn't even make sens-"

"There is a scholarship program that I think you will be interested in and I want you to push yourself. This assignment carries a lot of value and I want you to take this seriously. Science and the real world go hand in hand. Without science there is no life as we know it."

"So me being a productive citizen had something to do with science? Explain to me how that works?"

"That Miss Nelson is something you have to figure out on your own while your out galavanting your youth away at all hours of the night now that schools out."

"Yeah right! The only galavanting I'll be doing is in my room! My dad rules with an iron.... and obnoxiously purple....fist."

Mr. Pearson raised his furry eyebrow at me and I quickly wiped the smug grin from my face.

"Miss Nelson you can go." He said with a heavy sigh.

"Thank you!" I said as I turned and headed for the door.

Finally freedom has come at last! Summer vacation here I come!
