Ryan's POV

1. Paint a picture of the forest
2. Get closure with my parents
3. Learn how to love

It's strange how up until now, I never knew nor understood what luck was and how it felt. My life had always been one mistake and failure after another, and like my parents always said "you don't have mistakes in your life, you are a mistake" so when everything finally happened to go wonderful for me I decided to start checking off the bucket list I had for what I thought was going to be my short life.

Compared to some people's bucket list mine seems quite tame, but it really meant a lot to me and I didn't really care for "BUNGEE JUMP OF A BRIDGE" or anything like that before I died. I just wanted to treat the world better than it had treated me.

I decided to start with something easy and left my apartment at 8pm to accomplish this.

I was going to paint the forest just outside town. The forest had become a second home to me, it was definitely more comfortable than the one I grew up in. The best part about it, no one ever came there.

Grabbing my painting supplies and locking the door behind me I set out for the forest.

After a thirty minute drive I arrived and parked off to the side of the road where my car couldn't really be seen from the street. Grabbing the supplies and throwing my phone into my bag I head out into the forest to find the perfect inspiration.

After trekking for who knows how long, I found it. A small hill with a single large tree rested upon it. The lighting of the moon behind the tree helped me to sketch the leaves and beaches in near perfect detail.

"This is so odd, I've never painted this good," I said aloud seeing as I was alone.

"Well maybe you have but never had the confidence to notice?" I heard a rougher voice and turned around to see a male. He was probably my age but a bit shorter, not that it was hard seeing as I am almost 6 feet tall.

"What are you doing here?" That came out a lot ruder than I meant and I was sort of scared of this guy who just happens to be creepily hanging out at a forest in the middle of the night.

"It helps me think," he said gesturing around, "Oh where are my manners, the name is Brendon." He took my hand and bowed as if we were in some 17th century ball and I was his Cinderella.

"R-ryan," I stuttered out uncomfortably.

"Well, Ryan. I have to say that your painting looks amazing," He said with a flourish at the end.

"Oh, well-umm- thanks, I've never really been complimented on anything I do." I whispered that last part while turning around so he hopefully didn't hear me.

Oh was I wrong.

Brendon grabbed my arm closest to him and spun me around, forcing me to stare into his chocolate brown eyes. I mentally lengthened my bucket list.

4. Befriend this Brendon

"Ryan," his eyes locked onto mine, "don't let anyone tell you that you don't deserve to be complimented, because if they do....." He took a long breath as if he was going to say something profound, "they're probably on something."
