Chapter13~Ashlynn

Start from the beginning

I started to jog down the hallways until I recognized the area from earlier that day. I turned a corner and sure enough, the bathroom Hunter and I were in earlier was right in front of me.

I took a deep breath and tried to slow my heart rate down. My hands started to shake. 'Why was I so worried? What could possibly happen...'

I walked over to the door and attempted to turn the handle. It was locked.

"Hunter, I know you're in there. Please come out now or we'll get left behind." I leaned my back against the door.

"I'm fine with that."

"Please. Come on." My voice was insistent. "Why are you acting like this?"

"I'm not coming."

This would take longer than I thought. I slid down the door and sat against it. "We have twenty minutes until the bus leaves." I informed him with a quick glance at my phone. "Talk to me." I kept a hint of annoyance in my voice so he could tell I was still upset at him.

"Ash..." His voice sounded like he was sitting on the other side of the door.

"Yea?" I encouraged him.

"Did... Huhhhh." He hesitated. "Did you lie to me about Marissa?"

"Why would I lie to you? WHEN have I ever lied to you? Especially about something so serious."

"So... You really caught her cheating on me?"

"Yes, Hunt. I wouldn't make something like that up. Besides, I thought you can tell when I'm lying." My voice was a lot gentler than before.

He stayed quiet except for an occasional sniffle.

"Hunt, are you crying?"

I heard him stand up and walk away from the door.

"I'm just so confused! I thought everything was going fine but..."

"It's ok-."

"No it's not!! My girlfriend thinks I have trust issues with her and I'm pretty sure that I do... and... Well... I think I lost my best friend today... I'm so STUPID!!"

I had never heard him so distraught. I racked my brain for something to say to make him feel better but I couldn't think of anything that he wouldn't shoot down.

All of a sudden, a huge pounding noise mixed with what sounded like something cracking came from the other side of the door.

I jumped up as fast as I could and started yanking on the door handle. "HUNTER? HUNTER! ARE YOU OK?! HUNTER?!"

It was silent in the bathroom.

All I could think was 'He cracked his skull on the sink... Or rammed his head in the wall... Or broke the mirror with his fist... He's hurt and the door's locked what the heck am I supposed to do?!' I could only think of the worst possible scenarios.

"HUNT, OPEN THE DOOR." I demanded.

I heard him draw in his breath sharply as he slowly made his way to the door.

'Good, he can walk.' I sighed, but I was still worried about him.

"Click." He unlocked the door.

I turned the handle and prepared myself to see the worst.

It was dark in the bathroom, but the light in the hallway allowed me to see him. He stood there, motionless. His head looked fine, except for his swollen, red eyes that shimmered in the dark. My gaze traveled to his hands. 'Oh no.' I thought. The knuckles on his left hand were caked with blood and appeared to be swelling up more and more with each passing moment. My eyes shot around the room until I spotted some blood on the side of the ceramic sink.
