Chapter 23- E for Embarrassing Dinner

Start from the beginning

"Of course for the dinner."

I turned to glare at Sally; she sheepishly looked away and stuttered. "I-I'm going to go get ready."

"Me too." I tried to smile at my mother and quickly followed Sally.

"Remember something elegant." My mother shouted at us.

I gripped Sally's arm before she could escape from me to her little haven. "What is my mother doing here?" I whispered harshly at her, making sure my mother wouldn't hear a word.

"Like she said attending the dinner." She whispered back.

"Don't act smart with me missy!"

"Okay fine, I'm sorry. She rang the landline and I picked up, she was asking about you and I said you were busy. So I told her about the dinner and she got so excited about your boss coming to dinner, she said she was coming over and I couldn't say no." Sally spoke softly.

"How about a warning?" I glared at her.

"I knew you were going to go ballistic so I decided not to tell you."

"Forget that! The issue here is my mother and Ethan being in the same room for a couple of hours!"

"It can't be that bad." Sally tried to make me feel better.

"Really? Remember she met Holly's boyfriend once and she gave them a whole thirty minutes lecture on safe sex."

"Yeah but he's not your boyfriend, he's your boss."

"That's what makes it worse! He's my boss." I shook Sally's arm to get her thick head to understand my fears.

I think shaking her arm worked, "Oh." She gasped realising that having the boss and my mother at the same dinner was worse.

"What am I going to do?" I started to panic.

"Don't worry, us girls will help you out if your mother does go on her little lecture mode."

"What do you mean us girls?" I asked reluctantly not wanting to hear what I thought it meant.

Sally rolled her eyes at me, "You know me, Leah and Holly."

"What!" I shrieked but in a whisper mode not wanting my mother to hear.

"What?" Asked Sally confused.

"Oh god! Add my mother, my boss and the girls in the mix this will result in an embarrassing dinner. You mark my word." I stated.

At that moment my mother walked in. "What are you girls babbling about? Go get ready." My mother shooed us off to our rooms.

I stood in front of my wardrobe deciding what to wear. I took out a gorgeous pair of jeans that would go nicely with a black knitted jumper but then I remembered my mother's word 'elegant'. I shoved my jeans back where I found them and decided to look through my dresses cause I knew for a fact my mother's underling words was to wear a dress. She believes wearing a dress to a dinner shows how sophisticated a woman is, if I wore jeans my mother would have a heart attack and I aren't being dramatic.

I heard someone knock on my door as I was going through my dresses. "Myra you're not even ready!"

"I know!" I screamed in frustration. I stuck my head out of the wardrobe to ask Sally to help me. "Wow you look gorgeous." I whispered as I stared at her in her little black dress.

"Thank you." She beamed at me as she did a little twirl with her curly hair bouncing around. "You do know the guest will be here in half hour!"

"Half an hour?" I asked in shock and dread. "I can't even find anything to wear, I don't want to wear something that shouts out I've tried too hard or something to simple that I have my mother glaring at me all night." I stated as I maliciously pulled my hair in frustration.
