Chapter 1: Saving The Nerd

"Here you go," I said to everyone with a smile as I handed them the book.

"And here you go!" I said handing another book to someone, not even caring to look. The book falls to the ground with a loud thud and I look to see that I hit someone in the face with the textbook.

"Oh my gosh are you ok?!" I kneel down next to the person to see who I hurt and how bad.

I was met with the same emerald eyes as this morning, staring at me with an unreadable expression. I could see his nose was now starting to run with blood. I just hit Corey with a textbook...

"Is everything alright back here?" Mr. Marks asks, walking up to us.

"I accidentally hit Corey with a textbook and his nose is bleeding," I tell him, still looking at Corey.

"I'll send you to the nurse Corey." He nods his head feebly as he stands to leave.

"Wait! Can I go with him? I was the one who hurt him after all," I ask anxiously.

"I prefer if you didn't since you'll be missing the beginning."

"I'll talk to Belle about it. Please Mr. Marks?" I ask politely, hoping he'll let me.

"Go ahead. Come back when he's all better."

"Thank you," I respond with a soft smile. We begin to walk towards the door, grabbing a whole tissue box for his profusely bleeding nose. I must have hit him pretty hard for him to bleed this much. We begin to walk towards the nurse, awkwardness hanging heavy in the air.

"I'm sorry for hurting you, twice today," I finally say to break the ice.

"It's fine," he responds quietly.

"I think we got off on the wrong foot. My name is Zelda," I say happily, putting out my hand and smiling my smile that I use to win people over.

"My name is Corey, as you somehow already know, and I know who you are, everyone does," he respondes quietly again, shaking my hand with his blood free hand.

"My friend told me your name. How come I haven't seen you before at all?" I ask curiously, tipping my head to the side slightly.

"I don't talk much, I'm surprised teachers know I exist," he answers emotionless with an emotionless expression to match it. We arrive at the nurse's office, walking in and directly to the nurse.

"Oh my, what happened to you?!" She gasps, seeing the many bloody tissues we were both holding.

"I accidentally hit him with a textbook in the nose and this happened," I explain for him as she seats him in the chair near us. She begins to clean him up which takes about ten minutes for the bleeding to finally stop. I hear the bell for third period finally ring. We then begin to walk back to English to collect our backpacks. As we walk through the halls together, many people start to give us odd looks and whisper about us. He starts to look overwhelmed by all the attention on us, but I was used to and loved it. We reach our class, quickly grabbing our materials.

"Um, thanks once again," he says to me shyly, looking at the ground.

"Of course! You're my friend now." I say with a big smile on my face.

"Friend? We're friends now?" He asked with wide eyes and a shocked expression.

"Yes Corey, we're friends," I giggle. He nods his head and cracks a smile on his face. He then walks away from me, heading off to his next class. I sigh heavily with my big smile still on my face. I turn around to head to my next class, almost running into someone again.

"Who's that pretty girl?" Oliver asks, his stupid smirk on his face again.

"Why do you care? I don't have to tell you," I say harshly, trying to walk past him, but he sticks his arm out blocking my path.

"Now now, don't do something you might regret Zelda. I'll be watching you closely now, and I'll make sure you regret rejecting me for the past couple years," He says with a cold stone expression on his face.

"I don't regret rejecting an arrogant jerk like you," I respond harshly once more, shoving past him and trying to get to my next class on time. I feel his gaze burning into the back of my head as I walk away.

Should I really worry over his threat? I shake my head, trying not to focus on it and focus on getting to class on time, with small thoughts of Corey popping into my head.
