"Brayden!" He smiled. "Have fun."
I smiled back and nodded at him. Then he turned and we parted ways a second time.
...
When the garage closed and we entered the house, Ursanne, Isabeau, and Edaline were all jumping at the door.
"Is he here? Is he here?" I heard Edaline shriek.
"I put the dog in the back." Ursanne reminded.
"Where's Brayden?!" Isabeau questioned.
I was in the back of everyone, waiting for us all to completely enter the home.
"Brayden!" Edaline screamed once she noticed me.
I smiled at her. "Hi."
"Brayden! Ursanne and me are going to the park! Wanna come?"
"Wait until he gets everything!" Melissa laughed. "I'm sure he's starving from that awful drive." She glanced at me, as if asking if I really were hungry.
I shook my head. "I can wait until dinner."
Melissa's face contorted into horror. "Oh no! You need to eat, Brayden."
"I'm really okay."
She shook her head. "Absolutely not. Ursanne, go show him everything in the pantry for a snack at least."
"Okay." Ursanne stepped forward, motioning me towards her.
I followed her down towards the kitchen. I had forgotten the way considering the house was so big and I haven't been here since my second visit which was about four weeks ago when I met the girls.
"Are you excited?" Ursanne finally asked when we entered the kitchen alone.
"For what?"
"High school."
"High school?"
Ursanne opened the closet, stepping in as the light turned on automatically. I looked around inside, wondering how that happened.
"Okay, we have pop tarts, cereal, fiber bars, Vienna sausages, um, string cheese, cheddar Pringles, Oreos, gold f-"
"Pop tart."
"Okay, s'mores, strawberry, cinnamon, douple cho-"
"Cinnamon."
She huffed. "You're a very plain guy." She grasped the pop tarts and handed them to me.
I didn't know what to say so I didn't say anything. I was thankful she didn't carry on the subject of high school. Ursanne and I both sat at the island. I ate and watched as she continuously tapped her screen, and then a smack was heard, and Ursanne grunted, and then she did the same thing over.
"What is that?"
"A stupid game called Flappy Bird." she mumbled.
She showed me the screen and accidentally smacked herself into a green tube.
"God, I hate this game."
"Then why are you playing it?"
Ursanne turned off her phone and moved her entire body towards me. "It's just addicting."
"Can I try?"
She didn't reply, but handed the phone to me. I pressed START and began tapping the screen. It didn't seem as difficult for me. I could see Ursanne gaping next to me when I reached forty. I got bored afterwards and purposely flew into a green tube.
