Andie knew how to tie a noose. Andie knew that, if she wanted to, she could end her life. But she didn't. Andie didn't kill herself because she knew well that people cared. Suicide hurts people, it's as simple as that. But Andie was... strange. Andie had a fascination with suicide, which was strange, especially since she had absolutely no history with suicide. She studied it maybe, but never was depressed, and never knew anyone depressed. Well, not until may fourth, 2017.
"Class," Mr. Wellburg announced, "This is Maria. She will joining our class today. Respect her and be kind, please." Students said hello, in different arrays of enthusiasm and apathy. Maria sat down next the Adam, who, coincidentally, was Andie's best friend. Mr. Wellburg hits his ruler on the table to gather everyone's attention, her eyes darting up in surprise. "Now students, today we will be working in groups of four for the entire week on a project over cell division and daughter cells, as well as how bloodstreams react to cuts and injuries. Chose your partners wisely, I will be giving failing grades to those who do insufficient work." Andie makes eye contact with Adam, their eyes glistening in unison. "Alright, get in your groups and get to work. You have the entire period to start. That is all." Andie snatches up her stuff and walks toward Adam, who is currently talking to Maria, the new girl. Josh chirps hello to Adam, kissing him on the cheek. Josh and Adam have been together for two years now, their relationship seems stronger than steel. Andie finally reaches the other side of the room, standing intimidatingly over Maria's desk. She falters. Andie look a lot more intimidating than she actually is. "H-Hey, are you j-joining our group?" Maria blushes at her own stuttering, and Andie smiles, sitting down at the desk next to hers. "Yeah. You're Maria, right?" "Y-Yup! That's me.." Her voice is shaking. Angie watch Maria fiddle with her sleeve. As she fiddles, Andie spots a mark on her skin. Several marks, actually. Cuts. This shouldn't be so exciting. After all her research, Andie has finally found a real life subject. The entire time they worked on the project, Andie thought about studying her emotions and physical reaction to a mental illness. It's strange, yes, but she's excited.
After science, Andie drags Maria off to the courtyard, which has been kind of abandoned. It is off limits to students, but she's been going there since ninth grade. That's two years of sneaking around! Impressive. They reach the middle of the courtyard. "Uh, where are we?" Maria sounds nervous. "The courtyard. I know what you've been doing." "H-Huh?" Andie turns to look at her, face glowing. "Are you depressed?" She fails to meet my eye, staying quiet for as moment. "Is... Is it that obvious?" She murmurs. "Not really. But I saw your cuts." She pauses again. "Oh." Andie grabs her hand, pulling it in between the two. "Tell me how you feel!" "What?" She lets go of Maria and pulls a notebook out of her bag. "I'm studying depression and you can help me! You can give me the information I need!" Maria gives Andie a small smile. "Okay."
"Let's get started!"
