She slammed into a tree branch. It felt like someone had just dumped a boulder on every inch of her body. Warm blood trickled down her face like a river. Her right leg was stuck at a weird angle so it must be broken.

She couldnt move, she was just stuck there... hanging. "This is the end" she thought to herself "I'm gonna die here all alone."

Hange closed her eyes and remembered her childhood...

"Hange, get here now!" Her mother was calling her. A younger version of herself ran to her mother's voice. CRASH! She had tripped over the hem of her dress. Mud splattered all over her face as she landed in a puddle. The blue dress she was wearing was totally ruined.

She went inside to face her mother. Nothing could've prepared her for the screaming and lecturing her mother did. "Always in a hurry. No regard for anything. Might as well be dressed in rags." Her mum had sent her to bed with no tea telling her she was nothing but a useless brat. That was who she was to her, nothing.

Why did she have to remember this now. Why couldn't she have remembered her brothers;Finn,  Jeremiah or Lexer or her friends... why her mother. Though Hange had been the first girl in four children for some reason or other her mother despised her. Maybe it was that she was curious or that she didn't care about girly things like appearances or hairstyles as her mother had hoped she would. Instead she was deeply intrigued by titans, not just deeply... madly! From the way they moved to the way they had appeared on this earth Hange wanted to know about it. But her mother thought differently. On the 27th of June, year 840, she ran away to join the cadets.

Even if her childhood had been hard she wished that she was back home. Anywhere was better than here.

A slight rustling sounded through the trees. It was getting louder with every second. Hange knew instantly that it was a titan. A silent tear ran down her cheek, actually it went into her hair as she was upside down. The trees ahead parted and through came a medium sized titan. It had a small mop of ginger hair and long eyes that never blinked, just stared. It stopped right in front of her and seemed to examin the half broken woman hanging from the tree. Reaching forward it pulled her from the tree, like a human would do with an apple, and held her tight. Pain shot through her body as its giant fingers crushed her already weak legs. The beating of her heart rung through her head as the titan lifted her up to its mouth.

"At least it will be quick" she could now see the titan's blood stained teeth above her. Bracing herself she prepared for the bite...

A massive crunch came from above her. "That was my head being ripped off, I'm dead." Wait, if she was dead why could she still think. Her eyes were heavy but she was persistent to open them. What had happened? Her would be killer was sprawled on the ground. The smoke rising from it signaled that it had recently been killed... but who had done it. Her question was soon answered.

A warm hand touched her head as she thought about the titan. Her neck clicked painfully as she tried to see who it was. "Easy now four eyes, you'll just hurt yourself more." She knew that voice. No, it couldn't be... but it was. In front of her stood a short man with raven coloured hair. He was staring down at her with an expressionless face whilst wiping his blades clean. "Hey Levi, thanks for saving me." Her words came out as a whisper so he probably never heard. She gazed at him. He was her saviour, her knight in shining Survey corp armour. The pain in her legs shot up again and she winced. It felt like someone was stabbing a thousand knives into her calf. "Hey" Levi was now crouched beside her looking into straight her eyes. "Where does it hurt?" As she couldn't talk she just looked down at her lower body, hoping he got the message. He did. Gently he moved her legs into a more comfy position, stopping every few seconds as to not hurt her. After a few minutes he stood up and whistled.

A horse with a coat as black as ebony came galloping up to his side. Returning to her side he slipped his hands under her body. She felt herself being lifted and moved slightly to make it easier. Levi than climbed onto his horse. Checking that Hange was safe in front of him he clicked his tongue. The mare began to gallop away. Hange breathed a sigh of relief. If Levi hadn't of turned up and killed that titan she would've been its supper. Her head lay against his chest and she couldn't help but feel protected. This was humanity's strongest soldier, nothing could hurt her. She closed her eyes and drifted off into a deep sleep, knowing she was safe from harm.
