Blood dripped from my tattered jeans onto the dusty dirt road. Drops of crimson red left a deep unmistakable trail that stretched for miles.
Every bloody footstep that stretches on the road is a reminder of what I left behind.
My impoverished village passes by me with every struggled breath. I'm lucky that it's night time. Darkness envelopes the street that will hopefully make it harder for them to find me. Although the blood is quite noticable maybe it will rain sometime tonight.
Suddenly, as if the clouds heard my thoughts, a fierce rain erupted in the sky. The water slowly cleansed the blood from my body and into the earth. My breathing turns into laboured short gasps. My legs give out, no longer able to withhold the excruciating pain.
"Ahhh" Black spots invade my vision but my mind refuses to give up. If I give up now everything that I lost will mean nothing. Leaving the Valdéz family is a death sethence, but I might be dead already.
A violent lighting bolt flashes in the sky with powerful thunder that follows.
I'm so close to my destination, I can't give up now.
By now Javier must know of my escape. The thought of his volatile anger and who may suffer his wrath almost made me turn around. However, the thought evaporated swiftly as the reason why I left assaulted my mind.
Antonia. Antonia. Antonia.
I didn't even get to see her face clearly before she was taken from me.
In an attempt to rise from the ground my knees refused and pushed me back down. I'm not going to make it. The rain felt warm and inviting. Peace had finally granted me a visit. As I relished in this new found peace my eyes closed on their own accord. Abruptly, two rough hands enclosed in mine, and started to drag me across the dirt. Too weak to react I finally let the darkness take over.
