august 22nd, 12:03 pm.

"move over!"

"hold on, my arm hurts."

"jesus, get your knee out of my side, joe!"

he started to laugh, moving his leg, and hugging me tightly. we were laying together on the couch, so close it was as if we were joined at the hip.

"any ideas on what to watch?" he said, running his fingers through my hair. i didn't reply, instead focusing my attention on the tv screen. he squeezed my hip, causing me to flinch and laugh a bit.

"i was asking you a question."

i laughed again. "i know. why not type in a random letter on netflix and watch the first thing that comes up?"

he nodded slowly, navigating his way to the search bar on the tv screen. "what letter?" he asked.

"p?" i said, hoping for a horror movie of some sort.

"tell me what it says." he closed his eyes while it loaded.

"you're in for a real treat, joe. paw patrol!" he opened his eyes, and his face lit up.

"really? just what i was hoping for! oh boy, let's watch all the episodes!"

"shall i get us some popcorn then?" he nodded, still looking at me excitedly.

i left the room and headed to the kitchen. i unwrapped the folded-up bag and placed it in the microwave. from the living room, i could hear the theme song beginning, and a long laugh coming from joe. i smiled, pressing the popcorn button on the microwave. i walked back over to the doorway and looked at joe. he was laying on the couch, the kids' cartoon still on the tv. his eyes were slightly closed, and i knew he was getting sleepy. he wouldn't be able to make it through a whole movie.

the microwave beeped, and i pulled the bag out, dumping its contents into a bowl. i brought it out to joe, who was still laying half-asleep on the couch. he heard me coming and sat up quickly, knocking the bowl out of my hands, and sailing onto the floor.

"oh shit," he mumbled. "there'll be grease stains all over the carpet."

"no butter, we're good." i said, smiling.

"good old orville and his smart pop! what a guy!" joe said, shaking his head, grinning.

i started to laugh. "what a guy."

(it just occurred to me that probably not everyone knows who orville redenbacher is?? to be honest, all i know about him is that he makes some damn good popcorn.)

joe looked up at me, still grinning. once the popcorn was back in the bowl, we settled on the couch, still undecided on what movie to watch.

"okay. seriously, what movie?" joe asked.

"here's a novel idea; what if we don't watch a movie? you're not going to make it through the whole thing anyway."

"what? i am too!"

"i saw that cheeky nap you had a couple minutes ago. you're tired." i ran my hand through his hair. he closed his eyes and smiled.

"if you won't watch a movie, how's about we put on some music and lay here?" he mumbled, laying down and closing his eyes. he placed a hand on my back, and waited for me to lay next to him.

i laid down next to him, allowing him to wrap his arms around me. "thought you wanted music?" i said.

"shit." he sat up, letting go of me and leaving me alone on the sofa. he grabbed his phone and plugged it into his speaker, as soft music began to play. he returned to me, attempting to get himself back into his original position. he managed, but i heard a small clatter behind him, and popcorn on the floor once again.

"joe, you spilled the fucking popcorn again." i laughed.

"sorry, love." and so did he.
