Hello everyone,
Vasyl here. This time we'll be discussing the character, Tsubasa Emrys or Emmerich Krystiyan
Tsubasa as a character was inspired by several other characters, both Kirito from SAO and Shiroe of Log Horizon as well as my own unique experiences and personality.
I always held a deep appreciation and connection for characters that are socially inept, withdrawn and very introspective, it's a personality that isn't explored too often while being well done (Kirito falls into said category of not being well done).
For anyone who knows me personally I'm thought of being those inept types that try to stay away from the lime light only to somehow fall into it. I've been compared to Shiroe in terms of personality (ironically my birthday is several days away from Shiroe).
Tsubasa is a character who I imagined as being a loner and a solo player only offering his assistance to groups he feels are worthy of a degree of trust. I wanted him to function as a front line fighter. Tsubasa's fighting style is to use swords for Close combat and mix it up long range spells, crowd control effects, and self healing. However to balance this-I didn't want to make him all powerful and knowledgeable as a gamer, like a certain black wearing swordsman nor did I want him to be a backline player reliant on others while coming up with these crazy strategies and tactics-I wanted Tsubasa to be a balance between the two, a careful medium between frontlining, strategic and support playing.
Tsubasa is intentes as mage fighter who prefers to stay flexible. This would make him a jack of most trades using healing, long range magic and physical attacks to take down foes.
With his character and personality I intended him to be very loyal to his group but always holding himself back because of a subconscious fear of rejection or making a mistake, while being able to identify those that are not so trustworthy, other words a good judge of character.
I see Tsubasa as someone who is dependable but is very unsure of himself; his abilities, interacting with others and how he can function in life.
Another character that has influenced Tsubasa is Quentin Coldwater from "The Magicians". As a character Tsubasa is the type to doubt himself and his abilities and likely fall into depression, and become angry at himself for is perceived failings, mostly because he over thinks everything.
To give a good overview of Tsubasa he is a character that is way harder on himself than he should be, overly anxious, and overthinks everything.
I hope that you'll come to really enjoy Tsubasa as a character as he grows and changes throughout the series of MAO.
Take care everyone have a great day and DFTBA.
