Isn't She Beautiful

Isn't she beautiful
On this bright October day
The depthless sky uncut by any clouds
The sun glowing down as if to guide her way

This is how you want
to remember this moment
As a perfect good bye
A serenity in which to let her burdened soul pass

But I had come too late
And had missed the last bit of air escape from her lungs
And did not see the transition in the color of her parted lips
From pink petals to an open glacier rift

Didn't you see the change?

Isn't she beautiful
Expectant faces ask
Because this is how you want
me to remember her as

But no

She is not beautiful
I think as I stare down at my creator,
whose body had been my first home
and is now cold and gray
the way it should be outside today

Didn't you see the change?

From warmth to cold
her stiff, still frame
A body that had not yet grown old
but decaying just the same

My God lies dead

Didn't you see the change?
