Under the Cold

Chapter 1

The night was cold, everything seemed still and quiet. There was no bristle of wind, no sounds of the night. Nothing. I was sitting in my bed watching the stars when I heard it. Shouting! I ran out of my room and onto the deck of my father's ship. My eyes went wide, my father was shouting and beating my mother.

"No you can't we had a deal!" she yelled at him getting out of his grasp. "Well I guess the deals over then isn't it." He smirked, He unleashed his sword charging towards my mother.

"Mama!" I ran over to them but I was too late, her body fell to the floor and her eyes going cold. Tears came down my face, I looked up to my father. "W-Why?" He crouched down to me. "Because, she betrayed me." He whispered hatefully into my ear, his voice got louder by the end of the sentence. Then he grabbed me pulling me over the edge of his boat. I was so scared grasping onto him with my dear life hoping he wouldn't do it, he was my father after all.

But I had no such luck, he gave me one more evil smile and let me go. I fell into the freezing old water, screaming and crying, but I started to choke I didn't know how to swim, I was only three years old. That's when I saw it, the big dark ship. It came closer and closer as I was falling deeper into the ocean. Then someone grabbed me, his arm tight on my shoulder and I was suddenly on the ship. I looked up and gasped, the man who saved me had a face of a squid.

He looked down to me observing me, I shrank back trying to become as tiny as possible and looked to my feet.

"What is your name?" He leaned down so he was eye level to me, "Faith" I whispered still looking down. One of his tentacles came out and lifted my chin, my gaze met his and I stilled.

"Well Faith, you could be very useful to me," he stood up and looked to his left where another man stood, he had a starfish on his right cheek, "Turner, take her to my chambers and watch over her." He looked back to me one last time. "Aye captain" and with that he left.

The man came up to me, "Hi My name is Bill," He smiled at me, he seemed much nicer than the other man, "I'm Faith," He took my hand and started walking to a door which I gathered were the captains chambers. I shivered a little still cold from the water. Bill looked at me and handed me a blanket, it was dirty and had holes in it but I guess that's all they had.

"Don't worry Faith, You will be okay." I barely heard him my eyes were already closing and I felt myself go into a deep sleep.
