Alexander's POV.
I stare at the half empty page in front of me and sigh. Words usually fly from my mind onto the page, but I am distracted. I glance anxiously at the door, expecting my new roomate any minute. After staring at the door for another minute in frustration, I save my document and pull on my worn converses. I might as well get a coffee while I'm waiting.
I walk 15 minutes to my favorite coffee shop, hoping my cousin will be on his shift. The bell over the door rings, and a familiar face grins from across the counter. "Alexander!" He calls, "another coffee?"
"You know I live off the stuff," I reply laughing. He hums, and fixes a iced caramel macchiato, I usually drink black but he insists it's bad for me.
He hands me the drink, and we talk for a few minutes seeing as the coffee shop is fairly empty. He suddenly shifts the topic. "Has your roommate showed yet?" he asks.
I frown, "not yet."
"Hey," he says noticing my mood, "don't worry about it. I'm sure they will show soon." I am not sure, but nod anyways.
My cousin glances past me and his face pales slightly. I wonder what's wrong. "It's looking pretty dark out, maybe you should head back." he says, worry etching his features. I follow his gaze out the window, and notice the storm clouds overhead, swirling and menacing. Gusts of wind blow the light rain around, but the lack of visibility down the street promises harder rain soon.
"You're right," I say my voice cracking slightly, "I should go." I finish my coffee, and throw the cup in the trash on my way out.
"Do you need me to drive you?" my cousin asks, glancing once again towards the storm.
"I'll be fine." I insist. He has already done enough for me, I'm sure I can get home on my own. I step outside wishing I had brought a jacket, as the cold wind cuts through my shirt. I am quickly realizing my mistake in not accepting a ride home.
The rain is now coming down in sheets, and the wind is pulling me with needy hands this way and that. I can hardly see where I am walking. A streak of lightning arcs above my head, it's path to the ground jagged. I flinch. Suddenly I am back in the Caribbean.
Bodies line the streets, children call for their parents as they are swept away by water. No! I shake my head dispelling the memory, I am in New York. This isn't a hurricane.
I look around, my breath coming in short gasps. I need to get out of this rain, or I am going to have a full on panic attack. There! A parked car just a few feet in front of me. I lurch over, tugging on the the door handle, hoping it is unlocked. The door flies open. Thank god! I barrel inside, slamming the door behind me.
"Wha-" I hear a startled exclamation from underneath me. Shit, there is someone in the seat already. I try to look, but another brilliant streak of lightning crosses the sky. A small whimper escapes from my mouth, and I curl up into a ball.
"Oh my gosh! Are you okay?" the person underneath me asks, pulling me farther into their lap and stroking my hair. I look up, blinking tears out of my eyes. And I find myself gazing into the most beautiful face I have ever seen. His golden-brown eyes are framed by thick dark lashes, and freckles are scattered across his face like stars.
"Uh, we will be going then, mon amie," a voice calls from the back, snapping me out of my trance. The man blinks. "Of course. See ya later!" he drawls in a slight southern accent. The two men sitting in the back throw the door open, and make a mad dash for the building to the left.
"I'm John Laurens," the man says with a sympathetic smile.
"I'm Alexander Hamilton, and there's a million things I haven't done, but just you wait." I state smiling. I remember I am still sitting in John's lap, and a slight blush creeps across my cheeks.
"It's nice to meet you," John says with a radiant smile. I smile back, almost forgetting about the storm raging outside. His eyes are enchanting.
