Thursday, March 8 12:17 A.M

The putrid smell of garbage in an alley reached my nose and I'm barely holding my patience. If I had a different character, I would have probably driven away. But this is my career. My life. And I'm not going to throw it away just because of a smell. However, I'm in a horrible position. Crouched underneath the car window so as not to be seen, I feel as though the criminal had seen me. I can feel his eyes piercing through the metal of this car.

I hate how the mind can play tricks on me and make shadows into something more. Into your own nightmares. As I slowly write and record the moves of the criminal, I see his shadow slowly move forward. Taking a deep breath, I close my eyes and say my last prayer as I clutch the gun in my hand.

"Hello?" A deep voice calls out.

I keep my breath quiet and slowly prepare my gun.

"Please, I want to help you."

No one can help me. I work alone.

"Go away." I called out. "I don't work with anyone. I work alone. You don't need a partner like me."

"You must've had someone as your partner before though. If you have an attitude like that."

"Go away you fool." I hissed. "Go away and let me continue my observations. If you go away then I'll think about it."

"Please." He pleaded once more. "I want to help."

I refused to answer and he slowly walked away. Looking at my other rear-view mirror, I could see he was just a kid. Not much older than me. Perhaps fifteen or sixteen. But before I could study him more, my attention was taken by the crash of several trash cans.

I quickly grabbed my mask and notebook and ran out of the car with as much stealth as possible. I bent down and slowly opened my notebook, drawing out the scene before me. Blood as usual. But this time his method was different. He chose rope instead of wire. Strange, as I noted my observations, the victim in his hands slowly gave up. Another girl, I noted. This criminal sure was strange. He always switched weapons every week and especially victims. What could be his driving force?

But before I could continue my silent questions, the victim slowly gave up, her life slowly flying out and going out to the stars, brightening another star and making the moon just a tad bit more gold.

"Come to watch me again future murderer?" He growled at me.

I backed away slowly. Where did I go wrong? I did everything as quietly as I could.

"I'm not a murderer." I replied to him.

"No." He chuckled. "But you will be soon. Isn't that why you're watching me? To learn from a professional?"

"No, actually. I'm here because you're on Wattpad and I want to know what goes on in your head. I'm trying to record all the amazing murderers."

"I'm amazing?" He chuckled.

"The way you write is amazing. I'd applaud you even more had I not known about your method of inspirations."

"Well watch and learn girly. But what you're doing is very morbid. What are you, fifteen? Sixteen?"

"Speak for yourself. You're the one killing people and spreading their blood out like confetti."

"But you're the one willing to watch."

"You're the one willing to take their lives." I pointed out.

"Never mind that." He said with frustration. "It's almost sunrise. I have to go home."

"Just like a vampire." I muttered under my breath. "Always have to be out of the light so as not get caught by the authorities."

"But a vampire is dead. As you can see sweetheart, I'm still alive."

"Not for long. I have people who want to kill you. I'm the one who's saving your butt."

"Who asked you to save my life? I don't need saving." He winked at me.

"Just watch your back. Because I'm done observing you."

I slowly turned and walked away, not making a move that would penetrate my entire image. As I opened the car door and sat inside, I rolled up the window and began to shudder with fear. My first encounter with a criminal. How exhilerating yet terrifying. I never want to do it again. I slowly put the key in the ignition and drove out of the secluded area not even daring to look back.

As I pulled into the driveway of my home, my cell phone beeped with annoyance announcing that I should wake up.

Too late. I'm already up. But dang six o'clock? I never stay out this late.

I quickly flipped my phone opened and silenced my alarm. Just as I closed my phone, it went off with a received text tune. My eyes slowly read the text and within seconds widened.

Mission accomplished.

I shivered with adrenaline. I had never had a partner who was willing to clean up and clear out my observations.

Thanks partner.

So I'm partner now? And the name's Jay.

I closed my phone and went inside the house to prepare another 7 hours of a real job and then 4 more hours of hunting. The computer slowly turned on revealing five more people added to the list of people to observe.

To: Jay

Looks like we're going to have a busy week.

From: Jay

Don't you always?

To: Jay

Good point.

I quickly crossed off one name on the list: Phil Renmo. My fifteenth victim. The one who dared to approach me. The one who made me cold with fear.

I should harden my heart a little more.

So Jay, looks like you dared to talk to me. Did you blow my cover? Because Phil actually talked to me. And I didn't think I'd be that noticeable. Oh well, even if you did, he's dead and that's all that matters. Looking forward to working with you partner.
