P. L. Garcia (Poem)

Have you ever been in a pool or bath and just floated?

Almost submerged but not totally.

Only your mouth and nose touching the air.

You can breathe.

But everything becomes fuzzy.

Noises become muffled.

Your vision is blurred.

Everything around you,

is in slow motion.

For a short time,

it's nice.

Calming.

Comfortable.

But after a while it becomes exhausting,

stuck in that in between state.

You find yourself either longing to be fully submerged,

or left with no air to breathe at all.

To come out of the water,

so you can hear, see, and move normally again.

That is what depression is like.

Stuck in the in between.

Able to breathe, but always

slowly drowning.

Though there was nothing worse.

So, I pulled myself out of the water. And learned to breathe normally, without any weight bringing me down.
