Scarlett

Carrie's voice was so soft, barely above a whisper and yet it was like a screaming in my ear.

Winnie's eyes widened in fear, and the blood drained from her face. She instantly ran, not wasting a moment to get to Carrie. I immeditaley followed. I was right on her tail, my worn sneakers softly thumping on the rubber floor, and echoing throughout the eerie building.

Carrie was a few aisles down, near the bikes, on her knees with her staff placed carelessly beside her. Winnie choked as she skidded to a stop, and I as well, trying not to run into her.

My worst fears were running through my mind as Carrie's back faced us. She was unmoving, just simply bent over as if in prayer. She wasn't speaking, simply staring at something that was blocked by her tiny figure. Winnie bit her lip, signaling me to stay back as she took hesitant steps forward. Her finger was off the trigger, but her knuckles were white as she grasped her gun. Everything was silent.

I could feel Josh's and Niall's eyes burn into my back, but I didn't dare tear my gaze away.

"Are you okay?"

Winnie froze, Carrie's voice was calm and startling in the quiet. I don't know whether this is Carrie's condition, or an actual threat, but I do know that it sent a chill I could feel in my bones. Carrie still doesn't move, and I bite my tongue as Winnie speaks.

"Carrie?"

My heart dropped. My heart dropped to the deepest pit of hell and burned my throat as Carrie snapped to us, revealing who she was talking to.

Standing in front of her, cradling a bandaged arm to her chest, was a little girl.

And my knees felt like jelly when I saw the little pool of blood dripping from her bandage.

Winnie's hand flew to her mouth, her eyes wide and shiny. The girl had to be no older than 8, with a ratty pink dress and yellowed shoes that I guessed were originally white. She was clean, which was the most unsettling part.

Her clothes showed her time spent in this hell hole, but her skin was clear and freshly washed. Her light blonde hair was in newly tied pigtails, also clean and soft looking. Her eyes were huge, and the darkest black you can imagine, while her lips were blood red with lipstick.

Who puts make up on a child? It was crude but not as if she put it, but as if it was forced onto her. I shuddered at imagining what she's been through.

Where are her parents?

She was whimpering, holding her arm painfully as the soft drips hit the floor. Her eyes were wide and she started to shake.

I almost screamed.

I should've screamed.

If I knew what was coming then, I would've ran all the way back home screaming.

Winnie

"Oh my god." I instantly rushed up to her, the poor child. She had dry tear stains on her perfectly rosy cheeks, her bottom lip quivering.

"Help me." She sobbed, her voice was high and innocent and it made my heart clench. "It hurts."

Carrie stayed where she kneeled, a sad look on her features as she tenderly rubbed the child's back.

Niall and Josh ran to where we were, with wide eyes and fearful looks on their faces. Niall ran his hand through his hair, blinking rapidly. Josh grunted, his head bent low and I saw a tear slip through his eye.

I knelt down with Carrie, and quietly tried to comfort the girl as she continued to cry. Her pigtails waved as she started to shake horribly, her sobs getting louder with each passing moment.

It was terrifying.

"Shh, it's okay honey it's okay. What happened?" I hushed softly, rubbing her arms. She unexpectedly flew into my arms, nuzzling her head into the crook of my neck. Her body rocked against mine, and I couldn't help but feel sick. There was something wrong.

"Hon? I got you it's okay, shh." I couldn't hear anything. Only her heart wrenching sobs and my soft words trying to calm her.

I looked up, my eyes locking with Scarlett's who looked wary and scared. Her hands shook and she looked as if she was about to start shouting.

"Honey?" The little girl started to quiet, pulling away from me with a frown on her face. Her dark eyes were red and swollen, making them bigger than they already were.

I will never forget her eyes.

"What happened? Where are your parents?" I cooed, continuing to soothe her. She sniffled, her hair now frizzy and her legs shaking.

I carefully sat her down on the floor, and her back leaned against the edge of the shelves. Her eyes were screwed closed in pain and her breath came out in short pants. I crawled a bit closer to her, gently raising her arm to inspect the wound when her eyes snapped open.

"NO!" her scream made all of us jump, and just like that she was crying again. Screaming and thrashing when I tried to calm her again.

"NO! I want Mommy! The monsters are scary! Mommy!" Her screams ripped my soul, and Carrie started to sob too.

"Mommy!"

"Shh, I'll take you to Mommy." I tried, but she shook her head fiercly, thrashing even more.

"That's what he said! That's what he said and he hurt me!" She looked down at her arm again, but her eyes were wide in fear.

"Penny." Carrie spoke quietly, tears still streaming down her face.

Penny?

The little girl continued to move, but Carrie suddenly placed to hands firmly on her shoulders and said once more, in a more firm voice.

"Penny."

Penny froze, sniffling as she looked up at Carries icy eyes.

"Tell me what happened." Carries voice was unwavering, and a bit chilling.

Penny bit her lip, for the longest time just staring at Carrie.

"He-he-"

"It's okay. What did he do?" Carrie's voice was more gentle, but I saw fury in her eyes and I knew that if she ever met that man that did this, she wouldn't waste a moment to snap his neck.

"He told me he was taking me to Mommy. He even gave me a dress and shoes and cleaned me up." I flinched, just noticing her washed skin and clean hair.

"Then he.....he took me outside....and there was a monster. He didn't-" she started to cry again, but continued anways.

"He stuck my arm out," she looked painfully at her arm, "and he- he hurt me. He let them hurt me."

My jaw opened, and now I did start to cry.

Underneath that bandage, I would find teeth marks, I would find rotting blood and skin.

In moments, Penny would be gone.

"He took me here. He told me to find- the group of people- and told me to tell them- and I would see Mommy." She started to sob again, her arm clearly causing her pain. I could already see her cheek pale, and looked away.

It was too late to save her.

"What did he want you to tell us?" Scarlett whispered. Her green eyes moist with unshed tears.

Penny choked, and started to cough.

I wept as she spat out blood.

"Oh Penny..." Carrie breathed.

"He told me...to tell you..." She wheezed, her dark eyes fading, "That... We see you. We're coming. And we're taking it for ourselves."

And with that, Penny's eyes closed, her body slumped and Carrie wailed.

But I couldn't recover from my shock.

I heard a thump, Scarlett falling to her knees, and I bent over trying to gain back my breath.

I hope Penny's with her mother, because things just became so much worse.

And it seems like we're expecting company.
