Brothers and sisters, I have one of both a sister named spring and a brother named Simon. I am the oldest brother my name is Zack. All the of us live on a farm in the middle of nowhere, 5 miles away from the nearest town.
We all wake up at six aclock in the morning to do our chores. Spring being the youngest girl worked with moma collecting eggs from the chickens and washing clothes. Simon, the middle child milkes the cows and feeds the animals. Me on the other hand, the oldest gets it worst. I have to spend two hours a day picking the vegitables which means an entire field of cotton and wheat. The only reason we still have cotton is because this used to be a slave farm.
Six aclock came along. Moans and growns came from around the room as my siblings and I woke up. Mom greeted us at the door with the a smile from ear to ear.
"Are you OK moma" me and Simon said simultaneously
"Kids" moma said happily."Me and your father decided to send you to school so you can get an education and live a life better than the farm.
"You mean we gotta walk five miles a day to learn about numbers and letters" Simon said complainingly.
"That's the catch" momas face faded to a frown"You guys are moving with your grandparents"
All three of us looked unbelievably at moma."if we leave then who's gonna take care if the feild, animals, and cloths" I asked. "We've started looking for workers to hire" moma stated. "moma we love you and dad and we don't want to leave you.
Spring jumps in."plus we like owr life here. We don't want anything better or worst. We don't want to leave you."spring started crying as she ran in the closet blocking it off so no one could get in.
Moma looked as if she'd expected that reaction"she has to go eventually."
"Zack can you come down here for a minute. I need to talk to you about something." I heard my dad yell from donstairs.
I walk downstairs inyo my parents room"yes dad"
"I want you to protect your siblings no matter what happens."He pulled out something wrapped in cloth. He untapped it and there in my hand was a 16 inch silver revolver. He put it in hand."No matter what"
I looked at him with a straight face"I'll do whatever it takes to protect them. Dad hugged me as a tear came down his cheek "good".
It was Tuesday and we weren't scheduled to leave until until next Wednesday. The house was strangely quiet. All I could hear was the sounds of dishes clanging against each Other as mama did the dishes. We did all our chores, ate breakfast, then went to our room. I had a bunk bed with spring. I stood up next to the bed and wisperd to her "you know there doing this because they love us right."
