I am alone. In darkness, but not exactly. Gold is the only color I see. Stalks are the only thing I feel. I hear nothing. My memory, gone. Away. Lost. I only remember one thing, I try not to remember. Gold. All my mother ever wanted. She got it. I am here now. In the endless stalks of grain, never to be hungry. Never to be thirsty. Never to love. Always in a daze. I feel my soul slip away from me each day. I also feel the Gold begin to contaminate me. My skin, a pale gold. My clothes, bright, shining gold. My hair, deep gold. My eyes though, green. Bright green. They refuse to change, and I feel the stalks getting angry. As the minutes turn to hours, the hours to days, the days to weeks, the weeks to months, the months to years, I become lost. I remember less. I give up hope. I seem to be stuck here. Forever.

Forever is a strong word. I learned that. I also learned to never give up hope, even in the darkness of the Gold.
