Their endless battle had gone on for years but finally Error had Ink in his grasp. The hatred he held for this so called protector could not be described in words.
Terror coursed through Ink's exhausted veins as he hung from Error's tangle of sharp strings. He knew he had lost. There was nothing in he could do but accept his fate and hand the letter to his one enemy.
"Error? I know you'll probably be very busy after you finish this but if you have a spare moment could you please grant my last wish?" Ink asked in a small, strained voice.
"Well since you have been the only person capable of putting up a fight against me, I can perhaps make an exception for you." Error said in his usual bored tone of voice. Ink smiled and used the last of his magic to summon a small letter that contained his wish. He smiled as Error's hand clenched into a fist. Ink's soul split and disappeared. The bright colours of his meagre belongings faded as he gradually disappeared into nothing, the ghost of a smile still present on his face. Then he was gone. Error felt nothing. He kicked the dust that was left of his great adversary. He had won the game.
Weeks later and after the destruction of countless universes Error remembered the letter given to him by Ink. He ripped the tiny envelope open and silently rad it's contents.
Dear Error,
If you are reading this you have killed me and have probably destroyed a large portion of the multiverse. It also means that I never told you my secret but I'll get to that later. Most monsters have their dust spread on the thing they love most. I never had any possessions really so I have nothing to spread my remains on. Instead I would like you to take some of my ashes to each of the worlds you destroy and scatter them on an echo flower. I know it's silly but echo flowers remember so I feel that if my remains are on an echo flower I will remember that universe and it will remember me.
Please don't ignore this.
Thank you and goodbye.
Ink.
"Heh what a stupid last wish" Error said turning the letter over. Then he saw something on the back of the letter.
Ps Don't forget me
"Heh! That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard" Error said as he threw the letter over his shoulder. It gently landed in a patch of echoflowers. Then all of them started speaking in unison.
"Please don't forget me" they all whispered in a perfect imitation of Ink's voice. That one tiny message spread across every echo flower in that universe. All whispering those four short words. Every universe Error visited they said the same thing. One day Error had had enough of their noise and decided to do what Ink asked. He sprinkled a tiny pinch of dust onto a single flower and almost inaudibly it whispered "Thank you Error" The other flowers stopped asking to be remembered. So in each universe Error complied just to make the flowers shut up. But each flower said a different sentence. "Goodbye Error" "i'm sorry Error" Error continued to destroy universes until there was only one left. As Error sprinkled the last piece of Ink onto the flower every single flower in the whole universe awoke. Each sentence said was on its own echo flower. All connected it created another letter.
Dear Error,
I'm sorry I had to say it like this. My one fear was to be forgotten and now that the multiverse is me you are the last person who remembers me. By this time you have destroyed all but this universe. I wish I could have fought longer and harder, perhaps it would have ended differently. I wanted to say goodbye to you in person but this is the best I can do. Goodnight Error. Goodnight everyone.
I loved you with all my heart.
Ink.
Error desperately tried to remove the suppressed emotions that was were now flooding his once empty soul. He realised what he had done, what he had become. He remembered the people who had cared about him that he had blocked for so long. Tears streamed down his face as he thought of the countless lives he had destroyed and the endless pain he had caused. He wished he could take it all back. But he didn't have enough determination. He couldn't reset. He was alone. No one cared. There was no one left to care. Silently he went back to the void his work was complete. There were no more glitches. Nothing. He set by the spot where he had murdered Ink and cried. He screamed out Ink'a name over and over again hoping someone, anyone would hear his desperate cries. But nobody came.
Error began to trek through the universes. There was nothing left of most but occasionally he would find an item or two. Then he found an extremely familiar universe. It was filled with walls covered in detailed drawings and paintings. This was the first universe he destroyed. Errortale. Ink had been devastated. He had painted on every single surface in the hope that something could save it. There was still paint buckets and brushes scattered everywhere from their first fight. Error picked up a bucket and threw it across the floor. He had heard that was how the meagre glitches he had destroyed called Ink for help. Nothing happened. Error collapsed onto the paint covered floor and cried. That small act was his last hope. As his tears fell gently into the paint something moved beneath him. The paint began to swirl and sparkle. Gradually it moved upwards in a tornado like fashion until it took a familiar form.
"You called?" Ink said in his usual voice. Error jumped up. "What have you done you monster?!" Ink yelled at Error.
"I'm sorry" Error repeated over and over as tears streamed down his face. Ink gently hugged the crying skeleton saying comforting words in a quiet voice. As Error continued to cry into his scarf he pulled back away from his killer. Error looked up at him tears still pouring down his skull. "I love you too" Error whispered almost inaudibly but Ink heard. Ink quietly looked up into Error's eyes and kissed him. The colours of the paintings began to swirl around them and reform into a world previously lost. It was happening everywhere. The combined determination of the destroyer and the protector recreated the lost multiverse.
Ink and Error walked into a meeting of all the Sanses that knew of their existence. Ink spoke first.
"Hello friends, we have gathered you here today for a specific purpose. It may be difficult for you to believe but, Error Sanns has something to say."
"I know you probably won't forgive me but, I cannot apologise enough for all the trouble, pain and misery I have caused you. I wish I could take all that I did to you back, but if there's anything all of this taught me it's that you must bear the consequences of your actions no matter how harsh they may be. I accept whatever punishment you see fit." Error said as he closed his eyes in anticipation for the anger that would surely flood the room. He heard a chair scrape and someone walk over to him. He opened one eye to see an extremely serious looking underswap sans. He opened his mouth to speak but then Blue threw his arms around Error and hugged him tightly. "I the magnificent Sans, forgive you. We all make mistakes and you have obviously learned from yours" the tiny version of him said. Various other Sanses joined in the forgiveness hug. Others were not so friendly at first but over time they all came to forgive him. As for him and Ink, well they loved each other for rest of time, their love never dwindling or fading, but growing stronger each and every day.
