"L-look. This is going to be hard for me to say, b-but.... I'm leaving. It's not for vacation, it's to move away, so that means I have to leave you..." I shake my head. "...no. That's too long. I have to be direct and straight to the point." I said as I stared into my reflection of the bathroom mirror. I took a breath and I tried again, saying, "I'm moving out. It's because of my dad. He got a new job and all, and we got this bigger house. It looks so cool," I sigh, "no. That's making it seem like moving away from him is a good thing." I look up from the sink and stare at myself in the mirror.
God. This is like what? The 20th time I am practicing this? And I have this as the result? Jeez. Well, I'll just jump in the shower and relax. Think about this after.
I start to turn around to walk away from the mirror, until my tail knocks over some shampoo bottles and it spills all over the floor.
.... Great. Just great.
I hear someone moving a couple rooms away and a door slamming in the distance, as the person nears the bathroom door and knocks. "What was that sound? Dylan, are you ok," my mother worriedly asks. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just knocked over some shampoo on the floor," I responded. "You better clean that up!" My mom exclaimed. I listen as I hear footsteps away from the bathroom. I grab some toilet paper and wipe the shampoo off the floor.
Ok then. Just take a shower and relax. You have time to figure out how to tell the news to him.
I take my clothes off, put my glasses on the bathroom shelf, and step into the shower. I close the curtains behind me, and turn the dial, so the shower head starts to pour out hot, steaming water.
"Ahhhhh... this is what the doctor ordered," I remark in relief as the hot water begins to wash off the sweat and gunk that's in my fur. As some of it gets off, I grab the soap. The sweet smell of lavender fills my nose, as I scrub my body. As I clean myself, I start to drift off into my thoughts.
How do you know if this is the right call, me? I mean, this is going to be bad. Not to mention, the guilt will be unbearable! I could just tell him! Tell him the whole story! Tell him about what that means for us. And then what? He'll be crying and begging me to stay. And I want to stay with him, but I know I can't.... Fuck.
I bang my fist against the shower wall. I put my head against its slick, tiled surface. I just stare down at the shower of water, running down my body.
I love the guy. We been there for each other, since the beginning. I can't just leave him! Everything we did! Everything we said! Everything thrown out the window because what I'm going to do. What about him? What happens to him after?
I feel tears starting to build up, as memories start to flash in my mind. Sweet memories in the park: a smile from a white and red wolf; two paws held to each other; a kiss on a hillside with the sunset shining behind; warm nights under a blanket of stars.
No. NO! Don't back down now. This is going to be a good choice for the both of us. I can't put this burden on us and it'll be better this way. We could meet new furs, and move on. There's like what? A billion other furs on this planet? He and I could fall in love with other furs and live happily ever after...
"Dylan!"
I snap back to reality, hearing knocking on the bathroom door, and an angry voice behind it.
"What is taking you so long in there? You have to go to bed," my father growls. "Just because there's a couple days left of school, does not mean you stay up late. Chop chop!"
"Alright. Alright. I'm almost done anyway," I respond. I hear my dad mumble something and walk off.
I finish my shower quickly and I turn off the water. I get out, grab a white and blue striped towel, and dry off. I put on my boxers, and walk out of the bathroom. I see my younger brother already in bed.
