I ran. My thighs started to burn, my throat ached for water. My ragged breaths were strikingly loud in the quiet night. The only thing I could do was run.

I felt the presence of someone else following behind me closing the space between us. No. I won't let it happen. It couldn't happen. I needed to run. Suddenly I stopped in my tracks. It was like a million invisible chains had bound me rendering me incapable of movement. A strike to the head followed soon after as I dropped to the ground unconscious of what was going on around me.

I thought about everything. A few hours ago I was leading a typical normal life. My mom, I had loved her with my life. She had taken care of me even though my father had abandoned her at pregnancy. My friends, the ones who had comforted me and had shared laughs with me. Now all that was gone. I didn't know where I was now.

Darkness surrounded me letting no light enter. I choked back my sobs not wanting to waste any more energy on nothing. I didn't know where I was or why. Why me?

"Why?" I wondered out loud.

Had destiny already decided my fate?
