"Can I see?" He asked, walking towards me.

"I-I don't think that's a good idea." I mumbled, gripping tightly onto the book and continuing to stand in the corner of the room.

"Why? I'm your boyfriend." He chuckled with a smile as I stiffened, my heart racing strangely fast.

"Because there's things in here no one should see ever again." I said simply, my eyes fixed on the book as I bit down on my bottom lip.

"But why?" He asked in confusion.

"Can you just drop it?" I snapped again, silence filling the air as I brought my eyes to his.

"Why would you hide anything from me?" He asked, hurt clear in his voice.

"It's not something you'd understand." I said quietly, trying not to raise my voice again. A silence fell again, though this time it was filled with pain.

"You're acting weird, what's going on?" He asked softly, putting his hand on my arm, causing me to flinch and jerk away from him.

"In this book... Are things I don't want to talk about." I said monotonously.

"That's worrying me." He stated, as I took a deep breath.

"There's something I haven't been telling you." I admitted, feeling clammy as the nerves began to kick in.

"Wait, what do you mean?" He tilted his head and folded his arms over his chest.

"I used to... Uhm... I... No, I can't even talk about this." I said shakily, clenching my eyes shut. "I was a completely different person and..." I let my words trail off, unsure of where I was trying to go with that.

"I feel like everything's happening so fast I don't even know you." He asked suddenly, as my head snapped up. His expression was hard to read as my heart stopped.

"How could you even say that? You know everything about me!" I yelled in frustration, placing the book on my bedside table.

"Apparently not. I have no clue about your life before America." He said as my gaze fell to the floor. "Why won't you talk about it?"

"Because it doesn't matter, okay?" I said harshly without meaning to.

"Ruby I've told you so many personal things, why can't you do the same?" He asked, the anger and annoyance now clear in this tone.

"It's different!" I cried.

"How?" He demanded.

"I don't know, it just is. You wouldn't like me if I told you!" I yelled, my voice rising subconsciously.

"Ruby I love you, for fucks sake." He huffed, rolling his eyes at me. It was strange considering he rolls his eyes at me playfully all the time, but this time his eyes were like daggers and it was frustrating how this literally came out of nowhere.

"What about Alexa, huh? You never even told me about that, she had to." I fired back, folding my arms over my chest.

"Don't even bring it up." He warned as I rolled my eyes.

"Why not? Don't you think that's more relevant considering she enjoys annoying me so frequently?" I questioned.

"No, because... Who knows what's in that book, I sure don't. I'm in the dark here, you know about Alexa but I don't know anything about your past. Who knows." He said with a sigh.
