New York's main boulevard was extremely crowded.
Im not this kind of person. I thought to myself.
Despite the fresh mid september air I felt suffocated.
The shopping bags created red strokes on the both of my wrists, not that Angelica actually cares. There were probably ten of them.
I answered the phone that vibrated in my pocket.
"WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU??!" Angelica screamed from the other side.
"I..I'm almos.."
"I knew we shouldnt have hired you, you useless piece of crap. Get in here within five minutes or you're fired." she hung up
Getting fired wasnt on my list so I started running. Passing the cafe place made me realize Im only half way there. Im never gonna make it.
Finally seeing the building at sight I started running faster. Climbing up that elevator to the eleventh floor was more stressful than ever. My heart raced both from the running and Angelica's reaction when she sees me walking through that door.
"Sorry im late its just that there were so many of these bags and i just could'n..." my eyes met hers. she didnt look happy at all.
She approached me from her table that stood in the middle of the large highly decorated room. The sound of her stilletoes touching the floor made me exteremly scared of whats about to come.
"Angelica just please give me an opportu-"
"Mrs. Walker to you." last step has been heard
"Mrs. Walker, yes. Im truly sorry it took me so-"
"You're fired. No further excuses."
Tears filled my eyes as I predicted what was about to happen. "No please. Im going to lose my apartment if I lose this job Mrs. Walker please."
"Then you should've made your way in here in five minutes as was told to you on the phone. why am I even arguing with you?! Out, now!"
"No but you dont understand." Tears kept running down my face.
"I'm going to call security if you wont leave, I wont say this again."
Helpless, I bowed down my head and left the room. Unemployed.
No one prepares you to this part of your life. You don't study it in school, they don't teach you this at college, I assume.
Trying to stop the tears from streaming down I walked through the building's front exit for the last time.
As I walked I thought about the young me and the problems she had. I'd give anything to go back to these times.
I sighed to this thought.
My mom used to say Never give up, not on your dreams and not on the people you care about.
I smiled to the thought of her encouraging me.
Eyeing my apartment from far I searched for my keys in my handbag and pockets.
"No! Please tell me this is not happening right now!" I screamed, not caring if someone hears it.
I climbed up the stairs wishing to god that my spare key is in the plant, or else I'm spending the night sleeping on a welcome mat.
Searching in the muddy sand I couldn't find anything. "Why is everything so wrong today?!" I groaned
I slid my back against my front door and buried my head in my hands between my thighs. Tears began to form my eyes.
Before I could realize I was crying again.
